Li'l Satan build

Just finished this, it features an early 60's Cox TD .051 running off a standard Perfect 1/3oz tank. I added 1/64 ply to the elevator to strengthen the inherently weak tail.

Hope to fly it soon as the wind dies down here in OK.

Attached a couple pics, one of the Satan and one of my 1/2A fleet.

Ron you got some nice looking planes there. Welcome to S.H. The pictures you tried to post were probably to big.

It wasn't the size as it didn't even allow me to add attachments. The buttons were greyed out.

Bill,

The covering is just plain old Monokote. I used black rustoleum for the other surfaces. I fuel proofed with TF clear coat. I attempted to fly it last Sunday, no go as I had the CG wrong and it is tail heavy. I can say it will do loops like crazy LOL.

As to the Queen Bee, no haven't flown it yet. It is so brittle that I don't think it would survive my skill level at the moment. I have flown the Little Gem behind it though.

That is going to be a fun plane to fly and looks great.  Now your shop needs work, it is too neat.

Ron,

Slap a BW, with 8cc tank on, to see if that corrects the CG.

A Cox or Norvel tank mount on your TD would do the same thing.

The Queen Bee I had was an absolute gas to fly. It landed slow enough that there was no damage to the tissue covering in short (but plush) grass.

Lil Satan, AKA baby Voodoo!  I had a great time flying them when I was a kid, wouldn't mind flying one now.  With your commitment to 1/2a you really need to contact Larry Renger, the man is Mr. 1/2a!

The only problem is with a tanked reedie I'd have to cut off the maple beam mounts. It may be an oprion though, but I could probably balance it out.

I will fly the Queen Bee as soon as I figure a way to mount the struts without destroying the covering.

I have spoke with Larry a time or two. Great guy, he even gifted me his problem Fox .049.

He is probably too busy to mess with a guy like me that is struggling to fly the beginner pattern! LOL

I came into this hobby pretty late at 38yrs of age so I have a lot of catching up to do.

Tail heavy?

Easy fix.  Shorten the tail and keep the engine.
