Don't forget to go grab a bunch of political signs after the election.  I use them to build trainers and also have a folding takeoff strip made from the signs. Duct tape makes great hinges!  Mike Alurac built a bullet-proof flying stop sign out of the stuff and it is sort of a 1/2A Uni-Slob.

We wuz robbed!  I went out this morning and all the plastic signs were GONE!  The paper ones were still around.  I guess someone wized up that the things could be sold to a recycler.  Or there are going to be a LOT of ET-1 trainers out there! 

Andy Borgogna and I did find a locale that hadn't been stripped yet and scored enough for our needs.

Well I found a couple of 4' x 8' sheets today along with about a dozen 18 x 24 signs while en-route to a vendor meeting today in Huntington Beach along the Navel Weapons Station Ammo Dump perimeter fence. Seems that the city workers in that area have not been as quick to cleanup like they did over in Fullerton this week. Maybe they're leaving for the GI's to do? I've accumulated about 24, 18 x 24 signs and 2- 4x8 sheets since the elections ended. I think I'll get busy on an ET-1!!!

In the meantime here's a pic of the ACP-12. It's a very simple 12" diam octagon with a hot running Larry Renger prepped black widow mounted on a Renger/Brodak 1/2A nylon mount with the elevator simply cut by opening up a cell of the coroplast. Reinforced the engine mount area, spar and bell crank mount with bamboo shish kabob skewers and epoxy. Total build to fly time about 1 hour and cost <$10 excluding the engine. A tank mounted Norvel would be a real hoot! Now that's got me even thinking about a tee-dee on bladder pressure. A cigar tube for the bladder housing??? I'll add it to the wish list for now...

I fit the 4 x 8's in my Camry and had to fold them strategically along the seams. One had short grain and the other had a long grain and was bit difficult to neatly fold to fit but I managed.

The trainers are assembled with hot melt glue.  I have not tried anything else.

If you want to use Krylon on anything with an engine, I 'd suggest testing it for fuel resistance, first.  In fact, one of my experiences with Krylon, I made upp some test patches on balsa frameworks, put raw fuel on them , and allowed to set for a couple days.  Painted my Staerling F-4U-1 with the early 3 tone blue and gray.  Got down from the first flight, and the Krylon had disolved where the exhaust hit it.  It might have been fuel proof, but was definitely NOT hot fuel proof.

I hope you don't have the same experience with hot melt as I did.  I put a field box together with hot melt.  The first time I used it after a day sitting in the sun I went to pick it up and it fell apart.

Painter's Choice is a rattle can spray paint that is readily available at the local hardware stores, at least here in So. Cal.  Considering our restrictive environment, it should be available everywhere else.  It is a lower cost product from the makers of Rust-O-Leum.  It lacks the extra oils for rust protection, but works great for our use.  It may be "Painers Choice" or "Painter's Choice", I don't remember about the apostraphie.

I hve never doen a search on it, as I can get it any time locally.

For electric use Krylon should work just fine.

Not Rust-o-Leum, but another product from the same company as mentioned above.
