Leprechaun Lethal Weapon revealed!
« on: October 12, 2009, 05:21:29 PM »
Here is a photo of Stan Tyler with his twin Flite Streak.  It is a scale down of a classic design and powered by two .051s, so it is Leprechaun legal.  It also happens to be a highly competitive model, taking 2nd in open Profile competition in the last two contests.  He was only 5 points out of first at the Hi Johnson contest and didn't finish the cloverleaf!  Between this model, a couple of baby Magicians and my Sky Sport, 1cc and Leprechaun will be really tough at the Mackey Open contest next month.  If you plan to come and compete, it's going to be a "tough room"!

The model has 340sq.in. and weighs 17 ounces.  He is running port-timed pressure on both engines and driving 6x3 APC props.  It sings a mighty sweet song in the air.  Currently he is flying 50' of .008 solid line and has NO line tension issues anywhere in the pattern.  The model pulls remarkably tight corners, so longer lines are not needed.

Stan is thinking of building another one slightly larger and switching this one over to Medallion .049s.  Wonder how big it would have to be with a pair of Cyclon .049s? (Probably around 600 sq.in.)
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

This is the first time I've seen the 1/2A version. It really looks good. Aparently it also has the same great flying ability of the full sized version. Way to go.  H^^

Now that Larry has revealed my master plan, I guess that I have to finish the 4 leaf clover next time!
Actually, this plane is quite docile in level flight and the rounds, but will turn a pretty tight corner when needed. With one engine out, it does behave well enough to safely bail out of a maneuver if an engine quits in flight. On just the outboard motor, it will predictably want to yaw inwards, but if you pay attention and lead it a bit, it's manageable, even with a bit of wind.

Overall I'm very pleased with the performance. This is my first attempt at a twin, but I must be a bit crazy to try keeping 2 .049s running at once.

John, thanks much for the drawings.

So where do we get the twin 1/2 A plans? Would this work with two Baby Bee's?

To fly with a couple of Babe Bees, you would need to scale it down to about 225 sq.in.

I can supply the plans, and since they are in CAD format, I can scale them if needed.
