Title: Kamtechnik head for Cox .049
Post by: Jeremy Chinn on November 25, 2023, 04:34:26 PM
We took advantage of some great fall weather today to get out and fly our little Ringmasters.

I built up a new TeeDee a couple weekends ago with a Kamtechnik glow plug adapter and an OS #4 turbo plug. I installed 2 gaskets under the adapter and ran it on 25% Omega half-a fuel.

This resulted in a great running little engine that started easily and would even do a 4-2-4 break. We’d launch it somewhat rich and that gave a really good run. I think I’d like to find a larger tank for both of them at this point.

Those Kamtechnic heads are a thing of beauty!! They give you several glow plug options for Cox or most 1/2A engines and not have to spend a fortune I have some of the Nelson adapters and need to try them out. I don't have any standard turbo plugs so haven't gotten one of those yet. I have a Medallion .049 on a ARF baby Clown that will be the first test subject when the weather gets warm again next spring, and hope to build a few more this winter.
  Type at you later,

A Cox 049 with a 2/4 break? Thats cool! I asked an expert  years ago and he told me  i cant run a  2/4 break on those engines.

I ran a stock Cox Medallion with a 4-2-4 break for a couple of years. It was fun, but the change in power at the break was significant and made it harder to fly smoothly. I could have detuned it to soften that up, but switched to a fine pitch prop and a constant rpm instead. My tank was big enough so that I could run either way. It might be more touchy getting a 4-2-4 from the TeeDee. I haven't tried it....
