Title: Jetco Dragonfly
Post by: david beazley on May 16, 2016, 08:57:00 AM
Here is a couple pics of a Jetco Dragonfly I built from Outerzone plans. It could be built as a FF with an .010 or  .025  or CL with .035 to .065.  I have an OK Cub .049 on it.  I shortened the nose by about an inch and took all the dihedral out.  I painted it with vintage Pactra Royal Purple, Metallic Green and Brodak gold dope.  I built and painted it while recovering from retina surgery and I'm  still not sure how it looks! I haven't flown it yet and don't expect it to be much more than a fly around in a circle maybe a wing over kind of plane.  When I saw the plans I thought it was too cute not to build.  I also made the CF undercarriage taking hints from Sparky's vids.
I also marked the bottom wing with the proper FAA information ;D

Dave,
Really nice looking plane. But are you sure it is not a drone? Watch out the FAA is watching!,, %^@

Dave,
Did you also take out the incidence in the top wing ????

John, technically not a drone! Under 250 grams.
Yep, no dihedral in top or bottom wings. Don't know how it will behave, it's my first CL bipe.
I had some fairly light and straight Sig airfoil balsa laying around so I used that for the wing. Sanded a little entry into the bottom leading edge of both wings but I'm sure its no Bislob!

The FAA has no scales. But I saw that you eliminated dihederal, what I was asking was about the positive incidence in the top wing, looks like that is for FF. Most CL bipes that I have made I have used a small negative incidence between the main wings.

The top wing has the positive incidence that were on the plans. So neg incedence in the top wing so it stalls last?   ???

Well in the bipes I've built I have put the top wing at 0-0, and the bottom slightly positive, which I think gives an over all negative incidence. Bipes  have a lot of lift, it seems to me that + incidence in the top is going to give even more lift,  hence the down thrust on FF models. Without the down thrust they would want to loop.
It will be interesting to see what happens when you fly. I have a F6C that has throttle (.40) power, it wants to loop at high speed, and the wings are 0-0. But it does have a Clark Y airfoil.

This makes me so happy. My dad built one of these as the FF version when I was a very small lad and I still have the plane. I never knew what it was called till I happened upon a kit on eBay and had to have it. I paid way too much for the kit, but like I said, I had to have it. Anyway, to make a short story longer I scanned the plans, traced them in AutoCAD and posted those plans to outerzone. To see someone using them really makes my day!

Randy that's just too cool!  Glad I could make you smile!
There are no coincidences... :D
I sent a pic to Outerzone and they posted it with the plan.
Thanks for posting the plans.

Nice job on the Dragonfly. I down loaded the plans from Outer Zone.

The decal looks great also.

Nice work David and as a CL no less. :) Thanks Randy for going to the extra lengths to make and post plans on Outerzone for this historic beauty.
