how would I use bladder on Lil Satan ?
« on: March 09, 2008, 04:34:03 PM »
Up until recently, I've been strictly using Black Widows or Sure Start style engines on my 1/2 a planes. My latest Combat Kitten has a Perfect 3/4 oz long style wedge built inside the wing. The problem I have with these particular set ups is the plane runs away from the fuel in hard maneuvers. I have some pretty good running Tee Dee engines and while using suction they tend to over lean and suffer. I want to use bladder with the Tee Dee on the Lil Satan but I'm not quite sure how its done. The planes that I'm currently using bladder are foamies with a compartment already built into it. I was wondering if a rib bay had to be completely sealed off with just enough of a hole to insert the bladder tank. The Lil Satan has a pretty narrow airfoil so I wasn't quite sure how the bladder would be inserted parallel or perpendicular to the leading edge. In addition how long would the bladder be? The one I'm using in the foamie is approx. 2 inches long. The compartment itself is 4 inches x 1 inch. I don't want to explode the pieces inside the wing during the filling process. Thanks Ken Cook

1. A TeeDee is way too much engine for a Little Satan or Combat Kitten.

2. On 1/2A's  you can't get a bladder or pacifer to fit properly with the airfoil.  Just build a comparment that sticks out through the top & bottom of the wing.

3. The correct procedure is to make up the bladder or pacifier you intend to use.  Then inflate it with one ounce of water.  Design and build a compartment to hold the full tank.

I use a cylinder with balsa end caps and manila file folder stock as the tube.  Fuel proof the inside of the balsa with ironon covering and don't worry about the tube.  In the picture, only the Pawn (the straight wing plane) uses this method.

The Mini Monarchs have a hole in the foam that is simply covered with FasCal, thus forming an adequate (for 1/2A) compartment.

The Viko has a high tech factory made compartment.  Due to the very thick airfoil it is able to smoothly contain the bladder tube.

All three planes have more than twice the wing area of a Satan or Kitten.
