I tried to build that very free=flight model with the 4 blades as a kid.  Never could get it to work, the soldering on the rotor hub pretty much defeated me; that along with the too-thin hub rocking on the rotor shaft prevented any kind of accurate blade angles. I may have to build one just to complete the unfinished business!  'Course I'd convert it to controlline.

Actually there is a C/L version there as well as the free flight.

A hub modification would certainly be ok.

Yup, I saw the C/L design as well...the other caught my eye since it was the one I tried to build when I was about 12.  Since my Otto the Junior Gyro actually flies, and looks so cool doing it, I just might give the "Gyro Skipper" another shot.

Cool!

Ya gotta hand it to Roy Clough jr. He really came up with some at the time unique designs and shared them with us!

The first model I ever  built from plans was a hydrofoil designed by him and is also on the same site:
http://www.vintageprojects.com/kids/model-hydroplane.html

Someone has altered the text and it says electric hydroplane but the pics clearly show a Cox engine. Certainly it could be made electric these days.
