Paw .061 ball bearing
« on: December 18, 2010, 12:48:54 PM »
I was all set to order one of these from Phoenix when i found one new on ebay. Total price with postage was $72.00. That was $8.00 cheaper than dealer. Then sales tax/ posrage. So I saved over $20.00. Engine arrived a few days later and is new. Nice little machine. I have a 1/2A Challanger all set to go. It had a TD .049. I think the Diesel will be better. The TD did well .

Dan, let us know how this engine runs for you , i would love to do a 1/2a diesel sometime. I messed with a black widow conversion for a while and could not get consistent runs. Have you ran any other 1/2a diesels before?  Hope you get it going!

Ray,
The Paw engines run fine and are user friendly. I had a .049 Paw and it ran great. I had a Mills .75cc in FF ship very nice engine. McCoy .049 Diesel ran very nice. Cox conversions for me I would pass. I had a couple of OK Cug Diesels but did not run them. Sold them but they looked good. The Paw will last a long time. Any Brit Diesel should be fine. The stuff from  china is pure bad news. They are like kit engines that you build and fix whats wrong. Some of Russian engines are good to. I have a Russian steel liner/ piston 1.5cc Elfin repo and it runs great. Carlson is good for Diesels or was good. It has been awhile. DR Clutton[Diesel] I hear is good. Paw makers Diesels from .049 to .60 size. They had a .035 at one time that was wonderful.
The big thing with Diesels is getting fuel and keeping that lid tight. Basic fuel1/3Kerosene/1/3 ether/ 1/3oil castor.  The ether can be from John Deer Tractor starting fluid. Kerosene from camp fuel/ and Sig castor oil. Carlson's also sells Diesel fuel.

Just make sure you get the steel version, not the ABC. My ABC will not run. It starts, but as the cylinder heats the gas blows by the contra and it stops. A solution might be to cut a groove in the contra and install an "O" ring, but so far I have not tried it.

I might try the steel version since you say it runs great.

George,
I lapped the piston as it was very tight. I did it slowly with alot of oil but engine is a runner. I have a Fox .15BB that was very tight and did same lapping. worked great. For $40.00 engine you can not go wrong. I had an ABC and it ran fine. Infact sold it to a guy who won his event using it. He was DQ;ed because it was ABC not steel. Some old fart was sore loser.
