Life in the way again.
« on: February 18, 2012, 04:47:24 PM »
I've always loved airplanes and have a fondness for 1/2a.  Just can't seem to find as much time as I used to.  Between work, church, family, and other things it seems that modeling sessions are getting far apart.  I think its been more than a year since I've done any 1/2a'ing.  I kinda miss it.  Checking in here seems to help.

(Life in the way meant a bit humorously.  Much of what takes my time is important or fun or sometimes both.)

Yep, Wayne, a lot of times things seem to get in the way of what's really important! LL~ LL~

Depending on the activities, combine them with the 1/2A's. H^^

You have to make time for what you miss or life will continue to get in the way. It's basically an issue of priorities.

Surely there's a youth group out there that's sorely in need of learning to fly control line!

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Wayne,

Have you considered any of the ARF/ARC airplanes?

The Brodak Baby Clown is an excellent buy, and an ARF or ARC goes together very fast.

I fly an ARF, but have an ARC version I like even more. You can inspect the construction quality, and controls before it's covered, and use one of the newer diet coverings to keep the weight down.

I don't believe I could buy a Baby Clown kit, and build it for the price of the nearly finished ARF/ARC versions. On top of that, they offer both beam and radial engine mount versions, and several colors to choose from if you get the ARF.

I've had two planes started for a while now.  Part of the limitation is no good place to leave my stuff scattered out at the moment.  Time I drag it out and allow time to put it away, not much time left to build.  Also my "launcher" grew up and joined the Air force and I haven't found a new flying buddy yet.

I thought I'd have more free time when the kids grew up, but so far it hasn't worked out that way?  Aside from 1/2a, I've got a new .25LA needing a ride.  Screwed it to a board and ran it a few times more than a year ago. It's clamped in a vice in the shed right now.

The priority thing may be part of what's going on.  That and I just don't seem to feel as good or have the energy that I did a few years ago.  I partly blame that on work.  Surviving a few rounds of downsizing means I work harder than I used to for the same pay.
