Kawasaki Ki-45 Twin

1/2A Scale seems to be gaining popularity. It will be offered at the Brodak fly-In this year. Here is my entry, a Kawasaki Ki-45. This was a twin fighter developed in the late 1930’s and used through WW II. There is a bit more data over on the scale board. http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=26812.0
It took quite a bit of running to break in the AP .061’s, but they run well now. Test flights this week

           Thanks for the reply John,  I built this almost 30 years ago and recently rebuilt and cleaned up the engines. I would certainly enjoy flying this in a event . Here is a pic as I don't know the exact rules of the event . I want to fly this in a fun scale event at another contest later this year. I hope I can get to see yours fly as combat is on Friday as well and my son and I are scheduled for that. Ken

Don't forget the Tucson event!  You can ship your planes there and have them proxy flown.  I think there is a thread in the main section about the upcoming contest.

Larry,
When is the Tucson event? The Ki flies very well, even with only the outboard or inboard running. lands well also. the gear have been moved forward since our clubs field is mostly grass with a concrete take off pad. No problems with grass landing, None of that typical 1/2A flipping. Setting the engines rich and they both run for the flight duration. The AP's have about an hour on them and they are still tight.

Let’s not forget that OCTOBER 13-14 will be here before we know it.  Get those little multi-engine profile scale ships done in time!  Remember: there are two categories – ‘Limited’ (pitch control only) and ‘Unlimited’ (anything goes).  This year’s rules available via e-mail...just let me know.

                John, I did get a chance to see your plane fly.  I didn't get to formally introduce myself as it appeared there was a scale meeting taking place. Your plane was in the drive with a few others. I really liked seeing it close up. Very nice on the way you did the camo. Ken

Ken, Steve,

Thanks for the comments. It does fly well, although I had a bit of motor trouble at first. I should have tuned it a bit at Brodak's. I fly at sea level and can see a difference in the needles at Brodak's which is about 1000feet and less humid. I was just to tired to do it after two full days of carrier flying. I was also trying to run rich and improve the take-off. I had practiced it at home and had it working there, but I was way rich at Carmichaels. After I leaned it out no problem. It will be great with the throlles connected.

Hope they offer it next year, I am already planning a new model.

                 I know exactly what you mean with the needle settings. My son and I spent Thursday more or less fine tuning for combat on Friday. I have a adjustable venturi and it was set for where we fly at home. I really had to close it down and lean the engine to get the fuel economy and power we needed. Ken
