This morning I put a flight on the FW-190D
using the new  Sufix 832 12 lb.

The plane flew great in light winds
on the cool and moist morning.

- The lines are 45 feet.

- There was no discernible stretch
flying the 9 oz FW-190D but I could
stretch them about 2 inches when
I was pull testing the lines to 10 lbs.
( Just the lines. Not the plane )

- During flight , I was surprised to see
less line rake than the thinner 10 lb.
Spiderwire. This might be because of
several factors I'm not accounting for.

-  The Sufix 832  12 lb is definitely
less prone to tangles than the
10 lb Spectra but still needs to be
   handled with care.

- So far I'm happy with the  Sufix 832
but I wish I could find it in blue or
bright green. I know they make it.
I would recommend it since it's the
best fishing line I have used so far.

Cheers! - K.

Gotta ask, why aren't you just using normal braided steel lines, like .008's or .012's?

Hello Wayne,

A problem I have with all lines is that
I fly at a busy circle and there is a constant
worry about metal lines being kinked.

.012 aren't too bad but they are too heavy
for a 9.0 oz plane.
.08 's are hard to get here, are delicate and
are still heavier than "Spectra" lines.

I'm talking about fishing lines since
it might help someone in a rural area who
has a Wal-Mart or Sports shop at a reasonable
distance, besides, I like how these lines
work and feel.

Cheers! - K.

Spiderwire makes a fishing line called Stealth.  It comes in 6 lb (.005 in) and 8 lb (.007 in), as well as larger diameters and strengths.  It is my go to fishing line for striped bass.  It is actually a braid that has a low friction coating on it.  It would eliminate the stretch you are experiencing but also reduce the tangles because of the coating.  It might be worth a try.  You can order it on-line directly for Spiderwire.

I've been using stealth for about 10 years. The box I have says 20lb strength/8ib diameter. Virtually no stretch when used as 1/2a control line. It's easily the best 1/2a control line I have ever used. It is hard to see when lying on grass.

I finally posted a flight video here;

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDfcimUYEP8&feature=youtu.be

I improved my ability to fly this little plane enough to
land a second place at Brodaks 1.2A contest.
Tim Stagg won with his Tsunami. Good on him! There
is no shame in coming second to Tim.
The quality of the planes and competitors was amazing.
( Scott Richlen photo )

This video was in early May and the circle was still soggy from
the winter melt.  I was rusty but the Cox TD wasn't.

You can hear the engine going rich on the outside turns.
A slightly leaner needle solved this and I didn't have this
issue at Brodaks.  I don't think I did, I was busy steering .

The plane flies well but it is very light and it takes concentration
to keep it in the groove.  It turns faster on the outsides
probably because of the drag of the landing gear.

I am very happy with the TD.
Paul Smith was correct about just sleeving the venturi
to improve the draw. That was the only modification.
I'm using one head gasket, a high compression head,
a fine thread NVA and Riches Brew 10%  50/50 Synth/ Castor.
I'll do a post about it later.

Cheers! - K.
