New Profile Scale Kits

Jan 1 I will be ready to start selling two new Profile Scale laser cut kits. These kits are 1/16 scale for Cox radial mount engines. With Surestart engines and external tanks they could be used for some fun combat. The airplanes are the Fokker Dr1 triplane (Red Baron) and the Sopwith Camel F1 (Snoopy) . The Dr1 kits will be $36.50, the Camel kits will be $33.00 . Shipping will be $8.50 per kit. Shipping for a pair will be $13.00 . If you like multi-wing airplanes and/or profile scale these are going to be fun airplanes.  #^ #^

Gives it a nice scale look, but I agree, that's one place where you're gonna have to forget scale for flyability.  Those will come out 'way tailheavy I'm guessing.  

Very cute, however.  Set up for Babe Bees it appears; how about a Sure-Start mod?

Both airplanes are designed for BabeBee or Surestart. The engine mount has holes for both, and the kit includes the blind nuts for the "top" holes on the Surestart engine. These are designed as Profile Scale. They may be nose heavy, but will get much more static score by having the right proportions. A Surestart engine will allow aerobatics and inverted flight. A Surestart engine will allow a lot more leeway in balance because the tank can be moved aft.

Hi Brother Pat!  Those look like they would be a great "Fun Scale Combat" team with some of the .049/.051 "Killer bees" i have been putting together!  Well, maybe a touch too fast, but FUN!

Wow, gotta get over $Christmas spending$ before I can go for anything else right now.  A RM Sportster awaits!

You are right about the concern being tail heavy, for some reason I was thinking nose heavy (senior moment). I was thinking nose heavy because all the "Micro" airplanes are significantly nose heavy. The 1/32 ply doublers up front will help to move the CG forward without the addition of extra weight.
The Dr1 has a 17 5/8" wingspan and 111.6 square inches. The Camel has a 21" span and 138 square inches. They are not going to be racing airplanes.  ;D The CG shown on the plans is at 20% MAC, that should be docile, they would get interesting at 25% MAC.
I also have these two airplanes as 1/24 scale for Cox TD 010.

I am really looking forward to the builds, Pat.  I need a swift kick in the posterior to get me out of the "building the next super stunter" which has me kinda worn out at the present time.  I do get too "Anal" about those builds! LOL!!  And I as looking froward to retirement being a great building time! LL~ LL~

There are lots of photos.  The planes are mostly shades of gray.

Recently there was a "Red Baron" movie.  It must have been a direct-to-Blockbuster release.  I saw it and it was pretty good.  Both Richtoffen and Brown's planes showed up a lot.  I don't know how you'd rip the pitchers from the video, other than pho-grap the screen with your digital camera.

In the movie, the Baron had a standard brown triplane repainted by his men using brushes.  You can see the brush strokes with brown showing through.  Not pretty, but pretty authentic.  Definitely not 20-point stunt stuff.

Thanks, Paul.  I had, at one time, a small library of WWI camouflage and paint schemes library, but no longer.  :'(
