Title: Finished my golden hawk

Finally finished my Golden Hawk.  My be a while before it flies.  Rain today / work tomorrow.  Out of town business next weekend.  Pictures aren't that great but maybe I'll get some better ones in a few days.

Forgot to mention I'm thinking on 35' lines.  Still open to suggestions on line length and prop choice. Pictured below is a project that I've been working on since back in the winter.  I'm afraid its going to be to heavy to perform super well.

Still haven't gotten the G-Hawk into the air.  When our seven months of record rainfall began to slow down other things came up like waist high grass and the tractor I got stuck about 1/2 mile from the pavement.  Long sweaty story.  Then there's putting gravel in the washed out places of the half mile private dirt road.  O yeah, I'm still working two jobs.  Thankfully I haven't been totally excluded from model aviation.  I've had great fun with a stick and tissue rubber powered model that my brother gave me in kit form for  Christmas.  Also fun with rubber band power combined with 54" wingspan foam glider equals new project--54" wingspan rubber powered airplane.  It worked so well that I can hardly wait to try it with a better prop and better rubber.  Still the hawk waits.  I decided I needed better lines so I've got a roll of braided spiderwire waiting also.

Wayne, What kind of engine is in the Golden Hawk?
I am interested in building a Hawk and would like to hear how whatever engine you are using performes.

Jerry. it is my guess that this engine has been made up of parts of different engines. A composite if you will.
The crankcase appears to be a simple run of the mill product engine variety.

The cylinder appears to be a throttle sleeve cylinder type which generally had dual porting. The thottle sleeve is obviously not used here.

The tank is a standard Golden Bee "stunt tank" easily identified by its gold anodizing and the filler tube arrangement.

Robert, your pretty much right on the engine configuration.  Actually its proven to be about my favorite Cox engine.  I am using a TD style glowhead.

There was the wonderful Babe Bee, the dignified Golden Bee, the famous but elusive Killer Bee, and the Queen Bee.  Was there  king bee?  ( also that Spider & Venom series )  And then all those wonderful mix and match pieces that fall into the huge and growing category -- That Bee what?

I chose the Golden Bee for my first engine. Mainly because it was gorgeous! The stunt tank was very important. I did not feel ready for a Tee Dee because it involved plumbing a tank. Simple bolt on for me. After Christmas (got the dune buggy) I then had a dual port cylinder!

Yours looks so much like mine did!

While speaking of Bee's, lets not forget the "Super Bee". This was basically a Babe Bee with the 2 port cylinder. Put the Golden Bee tank on it and paint it black and you have  - Tah-Dah!! a Black Widow.

I remember the Cox P-40 box had the Super Bee description on the end flap for a while.

Just wanted to publicly say thanks for the advice I received via Email.  My Hawk will probably make its first flight with 35' lines and a 5x3 prop.  The wood prop and "occupants" were mostly for pictures I wanted to take before the planes first flight.  Actually I've already removed the occupants.  If this particular plane can make some lazy eights and 45 degree wing overs I'll be thrilled.  I'm hoping for something more stunt capable in the future.  Although I have plenty of 15% nitro fuel I may pick up some 25% Friday If the "local" (about 50 miles away) has some in stock.

I vote highly for the twentyfive percent fuel. Missile Mist for me!!!
 You will get more consistant runs and easier starting. You won't be dissapointed by this choice.

As I suggested in my PM, if you want to do Lazy Eights, Inverted, and Outside Loops, you need to put the bellcrank  on top of the wing, or better yet, on the thrust line.
