E-Bay score
« on: May 18, 2010, 09:17:09 AM »
You know those parts listings you see on Da-bay all the time well I found one from Canada and decided to bid on it, I won it for 11 bucks and becouse the seller was close by shipping was only 7 bucks, so what did I get for my 18 bucks? Well after hours of cleaning and fitting I ended up with two wrenches a glow clip a sure start a Baby Bee and a Dragonfly that I modified to a stunt tank, all three have great compresion and should run so I think I scored.
Thanks
Dwayne

Lucky you.  That's an interesting wrench on the top right.

When I was just starting high school in the mid '70's I mentioned to a cousin -- who was a junior or a senior, a basketball player and quite popular -- that I wished I had more 049 engines.  He polled all of his friends with crashed Cox plastic planes, and I have a bucket of Cox reedie engines to this day.

I couldn't use them up unless I started building free-flights and left of the DT's.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Dwayne,

Nice score!

Is that a Sure Start cylinder, on your Babe Bee?

The starter springs all look new as well. I hate it when they've been twisted completely out of shape.

Hi Bill
Yeah it's a daul bypass cylinder on the Bee should make it run better but not as long as for the springs they were all snap starters wich I don't like so I bent them into regular spring starters.
 Thanks for the reply

Dwayne,

That's a great idea!  H^^

I've considered replacing mine, but will see if I can bend the originals into a no drag configuration.

I just pitch mine, and start by hand.  They generally start right up -- often in the wrong direction, but they start right up.

The hot Mouse Racers in my region love the ratchet starters for competition.  The reliable starting in the right direction with no effort to engage the spring make their pit stops enough faster to compensate for the slight rpm loss (100, in my experience).  Give it a second thought before modifying.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Larry,

I thought the power loss was greater than that with the ratchet starters, but that's a good point anyway. No way a 100 RPM loss is going to effect my flying.  ;D

By the way, I picked up a few Norvel engines, and one was missing the spraybar and needle. On a hunch I tried one of Jan's spraybars, and it fits perfectly! Looks like a few AP Wasp parts, are all that's needed to replace those hard to find Norvel needles.
