Title: DO WE KEEP PRINTING HALF A FLYER?
Post by: LARRY RICE on October 11, 2011, 08:03:28 PM
As we come to a close of our first year of publishing Half A Flyer Magazine we have to ask if it is worth continuing it into next year.   D>K  We have several readers now that seem to enjoy the magazine but we need more.
For the most part the readers who are enjoying the magazine are keeping it to themselves and that is fine except it doesn't spread the word and bring in new subscribers and frankly that is what we need.
Many of you are on other chat rooms; why not tell them about your discovery Half A Flyer?  How about taking a copy to your flying club or mentioning it in your news letter?  Tell a friend and help us to stay in business.
Local hobby stores can carry Half A Flyer at a discount but it is up to you to tell them.
Watch for Januarys issue it will be Great.

Thank You for all of your help

Thanks Ray, this is the kind of support that we need.  If you wonder where all of the hobby stores have gone; its because the customers stopped coming, it is the same with magazines - we depend on you.

I like the magazine Larry and shared it around, but I don't think anyone else local picked up on it.
I think I forgot the combat guys, maybe they will like it better than the stunt guys.

I enjoy reading the magazine very much. Bear in mind that many of us do not live in a hot-bed of CL activity and we are essentially lone modelers. Sometimes there is no one to share it with.

I do understand that George and if you do find a "Hot Bed of Control Line" let us know.  I appreciate everyone who has subscribed to the magazine.  I am sorry about my rant I am just frustrated that I can not get the word out to more people.  I am sure that it will work out.  We have a fine staff and as long as I can I will keep this magazine going.  At this time we have plans for another year ... then we will see.  I believe that the magazine will grow in size next year as more staff writers are signing up.  H^^

Maybe this should be also posted in the Open section, unless I have missed it.   Also using PayPal shouldn't the price be a little higher.  Just got this latest issue printed off and it looks great.

Doc is correct! you really should increase the price of the emailed copy. Even us oldsters could and in my case would pay more for what we get! I live in the UK and C/L flying doesn't attract many people and 1/2A C/L is almost dead, so there is no one I know that I could arm twist. I hope the mag keeps going, it really is worth it.

Regards,

Andrew.

I live in the UK
I was wondering if people on UK and Australian forums are aware of Half A Flyer.
I'm just a lurker at the Barton site, so cannot search for mentions...
...........

... are there many buying the printed version?

We currently print 30 for U.S. customers only and of those two stores are carring them at 4 issues each.  PDF is at about 63 readers.  I would like to double these numbers.

In the next issue there will be a Renew Subscription form or you can do it now if you like.  I am sure that we will be good for another year.  There will also be back issues for sale in printed form only.  These will cost more than if you subscribed for the year.

Hi Larry,

So far, I have really enjoyed the magazine and really hope it continues.  I would tell everyone if there was anyone else close to me! ;D  I will renew for next year and hope you can continue for a long time.

I had planned to send you some stuff for the mag, but cancer surgery, and chemo therapy, have halted much of what I would like to do.  Soon, though!

Thanks for your hard work!
Bill

Freiends on face book, friends in the archery world..
friends hear and even friends on my bowling forums and metal detecting friends....sheesh.
I hope you fare well....
Hang in there.....

Well, I'll add my support to the continuation of "Half A Flyer" and will definitely be renewing my subscription. I've only actually built 1 "Half A" model so far (And that was electric, so debatable as to it's authenticity).  S?P But have found all the issues so far to be packed with info and well worth the subscription.

Like Andrew says above this particular branch of CL is pretty much dead in the UK unfortunately.

I'm not sure about the price increase which has been mentioned, I would pay more with pleasure but if you are trying to increase circulation then I think the "pdf" copy is priced about right.

Would there be any objections if I posted a single copy on say the Barton site with contact details? If it's OK any preference as to which copy?
