Dick Sarpolus Zlin ready for first flight

I finally got around to finishing the Zlin and it is ready for the first flight. It will be powered by the AP .061.
I built the tank out of .005" brass because it was lighter, but it was much more difficult to work with then the tinplate.

Nice finish.  I have a Cap 232 about that size (the plane is original, but the size was stolen from that set of designs).  It flies very nicely on a Norvel 049 and 20% nitro -- yours should go like fire.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Depending on line length, consider using the APC 6x2 or 5.5x2.5 props.  We find the speed of the model is moderate, but the pulling power excellent.

THOSE ARE DANG CUTE!  Both the plane and the little girl.....she's almost as cute as my grand daughter....not that I'm prejudiced in any way!  H^^

I knew I had seen that face somewhere.  Hope she is getting paid well for modelling those toy airplanes. LL~ LL~She is still a sweet heart and the plane isn't bad looking either. VD~ H^^

Thanks for all the kind words. As she gets older the modelling fees will probably get higher, but the planes look better when she holds them. I have a 6X2 on for the first flight.

The field is ready, grass is cut nice and short.  I was out there before dark laying out the pits and doing some last minute prep.

I'm flying the Cap on an old Top Flight nylon 5-1/4 x 2.5; based on that I expect that either of the above two props would work quite well.

I wanted to bring her and her brother to the fun fly, but their mother had other plans for them. She flies her trainer with help and has a lot of fun doing it.

Brett, the wingspan is around 28 inches.  She is also holding my Viking in the OT section.

Looks great! It's nice to see some extra time spent on finishing a 1/2A model and I really like the added details like the panel lines etc. The little ones are a lot of fun to "doll up" too! I've got a 1/2A Skyray in full white and orange Navy training markings. It's got a Norvel .061 and a Master Airscrew 6x3 works really well on it.

I enjoy playing with the smaller ones from time to time. They take up less space and are easier to store then my large stunters. I have been using the smaller ones to pratice and improve my painting skills. Each model I do I find a new way to make mistakes, but then I also learn what to look out for. I like the was ink lines look on models and the more I do the better they come out.
