Title: Crimps for 1/2 A leadouts
Post by: Mike Griffin on August 06, 2013, 10:17:32 PM
Where can I order just the crimps for crimping leadouts to the bellcrank and the ends where they attach to the lines?  Or can I just use some small brass tubing?

Thanks

Mike

Mike, Melvin at MBS can provide you with exactly what you need and over the top service.  http://www.mbsmodelsupply.com/Ordering/Order.php     Just scroll through the items and you will find the crimp tube sleeves. I personally don't use .008 lines. They just fail due to kinks and are a constant hassle. I switched long ago to .012's and never looked back and this is with Cox powered models. I see no penalty in the extra few thou that the lines are in terms of maneuver performance. Then again, my engines aren't typically out of the box runners as they've been hopped up a bit. Ken

I'd use copper or aluminum rather than brass.

Aluminum works just fine and is the easiest to work with.

I'll second MBS model supply.  I use his sleeves and eyelets as well as his crimping pliers.  Just so easy to order 25 or 50 sleeves and not sit and cut them all (lazy I guess).

Another source of the sleeves are fishing leader sleeves.  I found them to be hit and miss.  Some were really nicely flared and needed little clean up but others took as much time to flare the ends as if I had just spent the time to cut them myself.  Once I found MBS I stopped chasing a source of good sleeves.
