Title: Crazy Crate
Post by: john vlna on March 18, 2018, 07:31:30 PM
Crazy Crate was a small round the pole model published in Air Trails 1954 Annual. Hippocket Aeronautics has the plan and article posted. Had I know about it in 1954 I might have made one, but I first ran into it in the late 70's when a collection of old AT and AAM articles were published in magazine form. So this winter I made one, updated to 21st century technology. It is electric with a full CL elevator. The motor turns a 7x3.5 prop and the plane ready to fly weighs 4.3 oz. Clear finish with a bit of Jap tissue. It flies very well, although I haven't tried to loop it yet. It has been to windy so far this month. Since it has an RC throttle touch and go's are easy. I may have to build a 2x version.

Looks very very cool. Is that black square your push rod guide? It makes for an exceptional picture, because it looks like a nice cockpit part!

The black square is a piece of Velcro which holds down the antenna. I am using a 2.4GHz RC transmitter to control the throttle. I am also adding some more finish since it flies so well, basically more sunburst striping.
