Cox 15 wrench needed.
« on: June 21, 2021, 04:38:19 PM »
I was able to obtain a nice old style Cox off Ebay, but it didn't include the plug wrench.  I know that all the Coxes included wrenches, so somebody with several old 15's might have a wrench to spare.  Hopefully,,,

The .15 wrenches are as rare a chicken lips, that's why Bernie had some made up. I haunted eBay for months and never saw many come up and those that did went for more than I could believe!

FWIW, I must have one around, because I still have a matching motor. (So still, in theory, need it :) )

Did you get a Medallion, or a Tee Dee?  I have a Tee Dee in all the sizes, except for the .15.
Lots of different models of the Tee Dee .15, and all of them rare and expensive it seems.

With a peice of flat stel the thickness of the slots in the head a wrench can be made using dremel tool.  I also have a needle nose set of pliers that work on my Cox 15's. D>K

Thanks for the advice.  I went ahead and bought one from Canada.
I forgot that the currency exchange goes our way so the wrench didn't cost much.  But the other unneeded items I ordered did.

You know, it's just plain inefficient to ship an international package with just one item.  I've been thinking about getting some of their product to evaluate their quality.

I was finally able to buy an Olympic .15, which was my first engine bigger than an .049.  At age 14 I didn't treat it well enough.  I damaged it and sent it back to Cox.  They wanted to charge me more than half the price of a new engine so I abandoned it and upgraded to a Fox Rocket.  Admittedly, the damage was my fault, but I made a management decision to spend my limited funds on a new 35 in lieu of a rebuilt 15.

I got one hell of a pinched finger doing that!  Started using channel locks.  Not good for the fins but great for the fingers.

There was a big guy in the club who changed HOT Cox heads with his thumb & finger.  Not me.
