I’m getting ready to hinge the elevator on my Stunt Runt. I am using taffeta cloth hinges. I have not glued on a set of cloth hinges in many years. I plan on using Sigment glue. Should I prime the stabilizer and the elevator with a layer of glue before I glue on the hinges? I’m trying to avoid having the edges raise up as a glue dries.
Any tips or advice as always is greatly appreciated.

You are on the right track. I prime the surface with a layer of glue rubbed in with your finger, so you have to chew it off later, just like the old days!! Did you cut the cloth with pinking shears?? The zigzag shape is what helps keep the edges flat and from curling up. Worth the investment and having them lay in your drawer and in the way when you are trying to find a regular pair of scissors!

Hey Bruce,
For what it's worth, I use dope to
attach cloth hinges. It soaks through
the fabric nicely and if something doesn't
lay flat I can wet it with more dope and
rub it flat with a finger.
I dope the balsa areas where the hinges
go before I apply the cloth.
I use polyester cloth for hinges and
for covering on large planes.
Cheers! - K.

So you're supposed to CHEW it off...?
I've still got all the Sigment on my fingers from building a Lil Wizard back in 1973....

Well I overthought that one. A quick coat of glue on the wood, then applied the hinges. all worked great.
Fuse has engine mounts and tail glued on. Everything is sanded. I think I'll finish everything and then glue it together. Too much of a pain to try and paint and sand a biplane after its together. Pics tomorrow.

I glue mine down with SIG Stix- it. Iron them down and cover or paint as you like.
