I have yet to have much trouble ordering from any of the manufacturers.  I did have one tho the program for the laser cuter left out two wing ribs.   Hewas great about it tho.  I would be ordering more if I had planned my finances better. They are all great companies. #^ #^ H^^

Jamie, I have no experience with that engine as its prices skyrocketed over the past few years. I do have a lot of experience with the Lil Satan. Mine currently is Black Widow powered. I spent over a year trying to make this work. The backplate isn't mounted typically as most other models its horizontal so to speak. This means that needle is in line with the leading edge. You now have to cut quite a bit from the pick up tube and make it bend extremely hard to the outer corner. I haven't had success with getting it to stay put. The other problem is I can't get a full tank run. My next Satan was tee dee powered with Dave Brown mount. I used a Perfect 3/4 oz wedge. This ran horribly. It would run away from the fuel, constantly ran overlean. I think your going to need to add nose weight actually. The Black Widow does weigh more and sticks out forward over your Killer Bee. The other suggestion is, I would try and place the tank as close as you can get it to the center line of the engine. This may take a little ingenuity and rib moving to get the tank incorporated within the engine nacelle. I believe though it will be well worth it. I wouldn't use wood screws in your firewall either. I highly suggest blind nuts from the back. I place tape on my nuts prior to epoxying them. I hope nobody gets the wrong idea reading this. Anyway back to the plane. Over the past few months, I've been making most of my tanks using a Uniflow pipe. I'm finding this works far better than anything else I've tried next to a bladder. A bladder would truly be your best bet its just the thin wing is going to make installation difficult not impossible though.Keep in mind that if you make or alter a tank, do not put a overflow that hangs down as you will bend it and damage the tank on landing.  Uniflow has eliminated all of my fuel runaway problems. I'm basing this experience on the speed planes I've tried my hand at. I'm not flipping these planes into maneuvers so that could be another problem. I found that the Satan can get pretty banged up. I silkspanned mine and found out that I will never do that again as it rips constantly. Others may flame me here but Monokote is an excellent choice as its durable and easy. I was told it would twist the wing like a pretzel. It did not . I use high nitro fuel as you will more than likely be doing as well. My paint came off the firewall due to the high nitro and paint chips consistently get sucked into the screen clogging it. Remember, the Killer Bee has no screeen and if this happens its in your engine clogging the reed. Good luck, I love these little planes. It always gets attention when you bring them out. Ken

Hi Jamie I hope I'm not to late but if you haven't built the motor mount yet here's what I did, just turn the mount and put the needle in the normal position.
Good luck

Put the needle horizontally inboard,  otherwise don't land inverted.   H^^

Wouldn't that be the same for just about every reed valve 1/2 a out there? It's never been a problem for me.

There is one other solution. Put a perfect tank in the wing and use a sure start or Spook 290 or any of the non tank Coxes. You can use a tanked version but that entails drilling a hole into the tank and then hooking up some small fuel line to the nipple on the backplate. We did that a lot in my youth. Who knew that the tank and backplate were going to be worth their weight in gold. The good thing is that you can use a baby Bee tank as you don''t need stunt vented tank
Another option is to use a balloon tank, cheap and easy to make and use. It's not very hard to balance a Baby Satan so build, fly and have fun.

I appreciate all the posts.

This is my first balsa plane in a LONG time and pretty much my first control line bird I ever build. This lil satan is a hadful so far but Im taking my time and trying to do it all right.

Had a hell of a time trying to figure how to attach the elevator and Im still a lil confused so if anyone could post some pics of it I would really appreacite it. Hell post any construction pics LOL.

Well I have the wing built. the motor mount is together and somewhat sanded so far. I still need to figure how to tie te the leadouts on the bellcrank but my dad told me something about loops and solder.

Paint scheme wise...... I have a lil jar of Sig's Colored dope in black. I was gona do a coat or two with the black and then cover the wings in some monokote type covering. I would guess that would be fuel-proof lol. Only control line im used to flying was my cox pt-19 from back in the mid 90's when I was young.

Anywho any and all tips about this plane is appreciated!!!

Whoah!  Either cover with tissue and butyrate (Brodak, Sig, Randolph, etc.) dope or Monokote.  Not both, especially on a 1/2A  You can't stand the weight, and the dope would bubble under the Monokote making a heck of a mess.

The correct setup for the engine is the needle inboard, the cylinder outboard, the vents toward the top of the plane.  Then there is no problem routing the fuel hose to the outside corner (formerly bottom) of the tank.  It works just fine, and does not require any heroic fuel hose routing.

Back in the seventies, when I was young and didn't know any better, I put a stock babe bee on the front of my lil satan with the cylinder, needle, and vents all pointing straight up.  My dad built the plane so I don't know if there were any modifications to the firewall.  The plane was damaged and repaired many times.  I never mastered flying it and eventually it was so broken up that I quit trying to repair it.  Never had any damage to cylinder or needle, but when a friend dove it straight in vertically the crankshaft was broken.  After installing a new crank shaft, I put the engine on my lil wizard and continued to use it.  The crankshaft may not have broken if I had used a standard prop screw.  I had replaced the standard screw with an assembly that used one of those small rubber-like spinners.

My main issueis fuel proofing. My dad keeps telling me if I monokote it that it wont be entirely fuel-proof and the wood would go bye-bye. I was jsut gona use the dope for the fuel-proofing and a lil strength. But if just covering it outright with monokote will be fine I reckon Ill jsut go that route!

The exposed wood parts must be sealed with a fuelproof material.  Epoxy is best, Water based Urethane is good too.  Butyrate dope is mostly fuel proof, but not perfect (it will withstand engine exhausted fuel just fine).  Monokote is perfectly fuelproof except at the exposed seams.  Cover with Monokote and use thinned epoxy over the seams and you are good to go.

Remember the A-J Aiecraft Fire Baby by Jim Walker?  Didn't look like any kind of finish on it except for the printed colors.  I also remember a lot of kits saying only three coats of dope needed.  How did our planes so long? H^^

DOC,
I remember lots of planes with two or three coats of butyrate clear and little or NO color. Also remember planes that showed the brush strokes through the wing panels when held up to the sun.
At first it was because I didn't know how, and later because the weekend was coming and I was anxious.
Those planes were just as much fun as ones with lots of effort to hide the grain and apply an opaque finish.

George

Edit: Forgot a couple of comments ...If you use a tankless engine you may want to modify the front end to extend the engine out a bit for balance, ...putting a plastic film over dope may cause separation as the dope gasses off. Tissue works well.
