Has anyone owned/flown one of these honeycomb winged demons? I've had one for several years, has a Black Widow 049 on it and never has been flown. Came with a funky plywood handle and some string. It looks pretty durable...

Richard, i bought one when they were on sale a couple of years ago mainly to get the engine. Flew mine about 6 times, let my buddy try it out and he put it in nose first , broke beyond repair in the engine mount area. Didn't hurt the Norvel. Plane flew okay , was a little fast on 35 foot lines, not a great stunter.

Got one about 4 years ago; the dealer installed an AME .061 at no extra charge! Fast, nose-heavy beyond belief, interesting. Probably a better flier if you put the engine on a standard R/C mount and put a decent-size tank inside the nose - - the AME is one thirsty little engine!

I have one with a Norvel .061 in it, it needs the power--the thing is heavy. Flies about like any of the old 50's combat flying wings--Wow, Half-Fast, etc. That is, it bogs down in maneuvers--you can get it to really staggering if not careful to keep loops open, etc. I intended to try limiting the elevator movement but hung it on the wall instead and that's where it is yet. I was not impressed.

I bought one just to get the Norvel .061 , disappointed in the way it flies . As Ray said if you hit the controls too hard it staggers . Using the motor now on another project .

I agree with the above, the thing was a toad and I sold mine after a couple of flights.

mine was the free flight verson i did have lines attached attempted a loop and instant mad cow diease cut acrossed the circle mutipal times and after about 15 seconds of doing it's own thing it commited suicide.

My son bought one just to fool around with. The Norvel definately performed well but a couple of nose ins busted up the wings honeycomb innerds pretty badly

Multiple dittos!
Ran the Norvel several times, Put the lines on it, launched, it lasted from my hand to the ground. Tore out the whole firewall. The Norvel now hauls a slab balsa DO DO Bird at insane speeds on 32' lines. HEH HEH, my tough 19 year old son looked like he was going to pass out before the first tank ran out. ;D

I scored one of eBay for less than the engine sells for. Bought it for the engine. A while later I put the airplane, without engine, back on eBay and got more than I had originally paid for it. Did not fly it.

Mine didn't come w/engine, so I think I'll pull my BW off and ebay it off. Thanks for the insight fellers!
