Baby Clown Engine Choice
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:07:22 PM »
...Should I use the new plastic tank Black Widow, or the "real" Golden Bee on my Baby Clown HB~>  Started life as a Brodak ARC, but uses the more classic 'Jumpin Bean style nose.

Joe

Hon...another one of your airplane thingy boxes showed up at the font door today mw~

I've had one with a tankless Golden Bee (used a product engine style plastic backplate) and one with a Norvell.  The 2nd one is faster, but they both flew well.  The Baby Clown is a great flying 1/2A.  Get the CG set and have a ball!   ;D

Hi Joe,   Try both engines and have fun.  Then save the faster engine for your lil Skyray so you can race with us this fall.

My procedure is to prepare all the reed valve engines I have and bench run them with a tach.  Put the best one on the plane and put the second & third place units in a Ziplock bag for when Number 1 screws up.  All the rest go back to the chop for another round.

Joe, with both engines being identical in size, shape, weight and mounting makes it very easy to interchange them at the field in a few minutes, so which one should not be a large issue.

As to which first, I suggest the single port Golden Bee to start with.

Paul has good advice. Better to run them both before you get to the field.

Here's to your maiden flight!

Paul...Robert, thanks for the insight.  I have never run these engines, so need to get that done.  On fuel... the only high nitro fuel I have is S&W 25% that I run in a YS140 RC plane.  it is 20% oil content,  50/50 Klotz/castor.  Do I need top add some extra castor for the Cox engines?

That fuel mix should work fine. IMHO the Golden Bee should work better because it has the stunt vented tank, and the small Baby Clown should not need more power. Good luck whichever way you go.
