I have a reel of spiderwire marked 50 pound 12 lb test. Can this be used for .049 size airdraft? I have never used this but with the cost of it I think I will try it, but is this too large for .049?

Yeah, Bob. It's heavier than you absolutely need, and should work fine on up-to-.09 engines. 8# Test is what most folks use for ½A's. (But there have been occasional reports of that breaking.)

Be sure it's not the shiny Monoline stuff...too stretchy by far. Braided, or "fusion", works OK.

Hi Guys, just walked in the door after spending $ (for this years hunting season) at sportsmans warehouse in Roseville. I was in the fishing section and picked up a 150 yd. spool of tuf line XP 15 lb. test. It is .006" dia. braided line. very resistant to abraision and very little stretch (if any). I work with a devout fisherman , he claims this is the best for what I ask. (I wanted to fly 1/2A on non steel lines) I hope to try it out in a couple of weeks. Plane in question is a rusky bult combat wing with a norvel .061 big mig. I will start with 45' lines then go from there. already saw one flown on 45' .008 steel lines. will give full blow by blow report.

I've been using various "Fusion" lines for 1/2A's lately - I would only advise that you be careful with the knots you use (even the Palomar knot will sometimes cause the line to fail - other knots like a blood knot have pulled loose on me).
Also, if you are using this to save money, figure carefully - I paid $15 for a 125 yard spool of FireLine making it MORE expensive than a 1000 foot spool of .012 stranded wire. Of course, depending on your application, the fishing line may outlast the steel lines or it may not.

My reason for going to the tufline XP was due to seeing how fragile the steel line was. This stuff is supposed to be stronger and lighter (and maybe less wind ressistance)
