AP .061 Wasp
« on: March 16, 2013, 01:15:37 AM »
Hi all, I just bought 2 new in box AP .061,s for $39 ea. & $6 total shipping, just couldn't pass 'em up.  Does anyone know where I can get C/L stunt sized venturi's and NVA's for them?  RSM appears NOT to list them any longer.  Can anyone please help?  THANK'S IN ADVANCE.

Here is a link to the SH thread.  Jan  Holuszko makes them. I have bought a couple and they are little gems.

Doug Galbreath graciously converted two of my AP Wasp 061's (yes, purchased through the hated auction site).  Doug does truly amazing work.  Doug has the added benefit of making and stocking 1/2A NVAs.  I cleaned and shipped the two motors stock, then Doug fabricated the venturis and installed them with two of his new NVAs.  The results are beautiful.

Attached (hopefully) is a picture of the two motors after conversion.

I wonder if at least the needle and spray bar are still available from doug. I could probaby come up with my own delrin venturi if necessary.

Hi fred-
I might just do that.
And thank you for your offer to send the TD collars. I'm likely to take you up on the offer. Not to save money, but to liberate and use some poor unused parts, as they were meant to be. I know you get it.
Happy holidays to you and yours,  Fred.

back to you Chris

Give Doug a call.. or email.... he is easy guy..

Does or does NOT have what you want

I got an early Picco P-0 .050 from Doug and he steered me to buy two Ofna spare motors... $29 each
later I wanted to convert one to aero... ...e-mail...no soap as he was out of the parts and not intending to make any more... at least I got an answer

Yep.
There are a few NIB hoarded by the hobby king guy, and he lets a few out on ebay occasionally.
I'd almost rather get the NV Big Migs, since they come in a u/c version already.

You might be special to Doug, or you had great timing. See below.

Chris just ask him

http://www.the-printer.net/DookCat.html

Asked him and the answer was that he was out of those NVA's and doesn't intend on making any more.
Looks like it's the TD venturi/adapter arrangement, or possibly pushing out the needle from a cox plastic backplane and using that....

I'll PM you about the TD NVA's you have offered when I come to a conclusion.

Happy Turkey day!

Got a couple of these in the post today.
Fred-
Looks like we will go with the td arrangement, although the nva's pressed out from a cox postage stamp plastic backplate would both be lighter and cleaner. Using the plastic backplate NVA would require a venturi to be made, and be more fiddlely to assemble. It's probably easier to make the adapter only.
I need the td arrangement for the OS.26 fs anyway.

Chris I just spent an hour on CEF looking for Ken Cooks various methods with the Norvels....no luck

I am sure you have seen the adaptation for the fine thread NVAs for combat with bladder

One of Ken's creative adapters was need to use a Cox Venturi and TeeDee standard or KK Fine thread NVA
To do this he shaped DOWN a APC prop hub to sleeve into the engine throat tight fit
The drilled and tapped for the Cox Venturi
The J&B the adapter into the engine

The three brass TeeDee NVAs I have are all standard thread
If you want to use fine thread push through NVA... some can be pushed out of back plates on the reedies or bought from Texas Timers

I have never held a ASP wasp but they sure look like a Norvel clone to me

Fred, I'm still using that engine to this day. It was very meticulous to shape that broken piece of prop hub, but it worked and it worked rather well. I tapered it so that it would fit tightly against the case and used a thin bead of JB weld.  The AP wasp though uses a circular case and not a bathtub shaped hole. I still have my case adapter for the AP but I don't really want to part with it.

No worries, gents-

I have a friend of mine that has been properly bribed with fresh swordfish, tuna, rock cod, and lingcod and has thus agreed to make the needed two (plus one spare, I hope) delrin adapters for me.... Finally work meets the hobby again in my life, yay.

So I will just need 3, (4 if possible, to have one spare) of the TD normal 80tpi collars from you Fred, and I will buy the venturies separately. Let me know what I can give you for them. I have some RC swag, that you could be interested in. Miniature Berg 7ch 72Mhz rx's? Servos, lots of variety? Other stuff as well.

The great thing is that I just got some bare intake manifolds for the OS.26 4c I wanted to convert, and it looks like the ID is smaller than the #3 drill size that the 1/4"-32 tap requires, so all I have to do is squarely cut that intake at the head side of the carb barrel, and tap it to fit the TD venturi. Then just screw the venturi in, (no adapter required, a beautiful thing!) and I will be all set for a U/C setup on the OS.26.
