I needed something to do.
4.2 ounces and I got the Cub to run right.
Should fly well.
I touched up the decals. they are now good, but not as dark red.
Note I added the plans and decals to the outerzone sight.

The design is a real fun flyer. Mine sports an Los Space Bug engine and is remarkably fast!

The American Boy with a Spitzy .045 was my first plane in the early 1950's. I still have one, with a Spitzy, not the original of course.

Maybe it a sign that I'm getting old but lately I have been having fun with the simple stuff.
I did this and a fire baby, now I have to make something for my Wen-Mac.
The club has a 1/2a contest each fall and one of these should be able to do the beginner pattern.

Oh the memories of the American Boy's I put together back in the day. OK Cub .049A and 25 foot dacron lines in the back yard so Dad could watch me fly. Did my first loops with the American Boy. Digging thru the shop found an original kit still in the box. Now I need another OK Cub .049A to power it with as mine is wore out. Bought a couple a few years ago and still can't get them to even start.
Thanks for the memories.

One of the reissues is whats on this one. I got two and this one had a flawed crank case that leaked air. Got lucky at the time and found a new case at a friends hobby shop.
Also, they seem to run better if you drill out the intake(remove it first). One guy I know just pulled it out and ran without it and it did quite well.

I tried both, enlarging and removing. Even checked needle valve assembly to make sure it was getting fuel. It went in the junk box.

OK guys, pull those cubs out of the junk box and check the needle. Many are very blunt. Apparently they did not have the final step that puts taper on the needle. Result is that it goes from slobbering rich to full lean in about half a turn. Using a file or sandpaper, add some (but not too much) taper from about 1/4" to the tip and try again.
I had this problem on several of the "later" versions with the tube in the intake (which is not necessary, by the way). They run fine without the tube. They were probably installed in order to choke some RTF.
Also use at least 15% nitro...these have a low compression ratio.
