Title: Adapt a medallion NVA to an AP Wasp?
Post by: Target on January 31, 2019, 09:46:05 PM
Has anyone checked to see if a Medallion NVA would work in the bolt hole (drilled out) of the AP wasp for conversion to C/L?

Thanks in advance. Not near my engines for a while.

R,
Target

T,
Are you thinking of running the case open with the NVA and bladder? Or are you going to make some venturies?

I have spare NVAs and an AP, so I'll try to check your "test" this weekend. Hit me up if I forget.

I was thinking with a venturi Jim. For uniflow and for flying stunt.

You can always make the venturi a bit long and put the needle valve in the venturi, then mount the venturi the way the original carb did.

There was a thread on the 1/2A section here not long ago about modifying a TD venturi and mounting it to the Wasp .061, so you might want to search the forum here. I did one just to try it and it worked out OK. i bought all the stuff from the typical Cox vendors on eBay and followed some one's detailed instructions from the thread. I haven't run it yet but have no reason to think it won't work.
   Type at you later,

Target,

PM your email address. I have a few pix for you. They are too big to post here.

The Tee Dee venturi works great in the AP Wasp. If I didn't have the Holuscko venturis, that is what would be my choice.

Easy peasy adapter! Chuck a piece of Nylon or Delrin rod into your drill press and run a file over it until it is the right OD. Sloppy is no problem. Then drill it slightly undersized for the thread OD and you can just force the venturi to thread into it. No lathe or taps required, though they would do a better job. Jb weld the unit into the intake (sparing on the epoxy, you do want the crankshaft to continue to rotate! LL~)

Or buy a Norvel Big Mig and be happy.
