Hi All,
My name is Nigel Tarvin and I have just returned to C/L after a very long time away. Many years ago I designed a 1/2a stunt model to emulate the classic models I admired from the early 70's. I recently found the plans and just had to build it. In keeping with the classic theme it will be Fox powered! Here's some pictures of the wing and stab:

A close up of the sort of I-beam ;D
So far the wing weighs 1.7 ozs
Cheers, Nigel :)

Beautiful work. Keep us posted on your build.

Thanks guys. I'll continue posting pictures as I progress.

Wow, fantastic work. If I was that good, I'd cover it clear so I could show off all that crochet work. Keep em coming!

I would make sure you can put a Medallion 049 in it, too, if the Fox turns out not to cut it. Fantastic work!

The thought has crossed my mind. :)

That is some gorgeous wood working. I too suggest a transparent covering to show off the wood work.

I'm planning on covering the fuselage with jap tissue & paint, and the wings & tail with esaki silk

Just amazing work!

Fox .049 FAI Special is the ticket. That's what some of the vintage FF guys use. A few years ago at the Alameda Musciano event, a Standard Fox .049 flown by Mike McCarthy was the fastest in the proto speed event. The problem was I beat Mike with a Cox Golden Bee due to the poor hot restart performance.

I second Brett's comment. I never could get my Fox to run a full pattern and eventually gave it away to a collector. Wrecked a very nice plane several times! Consider getting the Brodak Baby Clown ARF to use for checking out the engine's performance in something expendable.
Do a search in this forum on the engine to see how it went. HB~>

Thanks for the advice guys! I think I'm going to build a Baby Flite Streak for engine testing. I put flaps on them and they fly really well. I also have a couple of Brodak .061's to run in.
Have had to leave this model temporarily to work on another project, but I'll be back at it.....it's just the beginning of building season!
Cheers, Nigel

Take the head unit off your Brodak and drill out the plug hole with an "R" size drill bit. Now use that as a clamp to install a Merlin plug. You will need at least one extra head gasket. This will boost rpm by about 1500, and improve consistency of your run.
Better yet, get the Nelson head that uses Nelson plugs. That will get a 3000 rpm improvement. I have personally done both these and the rpm numbers were ones I measured.

You have pictures of this? Pictures work wonders for me. I have a new brodak .049 that I might buy a new head for and try that.

Wow, that's impressive!
