Now that the waterfowl season is over, its time to get back flying. As you guys probably remember, I had some planes stolen but were recovered albeit destroyed. Been working on and off on this since the end of January and just finished it up.
32" span roughly 200 sq. 8.6 oz with a .061 AP Wasp. My 7 year old came up with the name when he saw the final product this morning. Said Cool Dad, looks like an NC State (my alma mater) plane.
Did some new things on this one. LE and TE are a 3/4" strip of 1/8" balsa, backed by a 1/8" dia carbon fiber rod, stitched and CA'd into place . Made for a very stiff light wing. Doubled up on the landing gear wire to stiffen it for the first half. Wheels are heavy, but at 8.6 oz I should have MORE than enough power with the .061.
Gas tank is the old Norvel style. I removed the pressure release and filled the hole with hot glue. Pulled the back plate off, cleaned the crud from the factory out and reglued it in place. Also removed the straight pickup tube and installed one that bends to the outside and bottom. Have run it on a sheet wing and get great draws and no pressure issues.
