4H Project
« on: February 06, 2015, 12:55:30 PM »
For several years now my club has worked with the 4H building and learning to fly 1/2A's. Yes the 4H is not just about farming these days. This year we decided to build an all electric CL with 2.4ghz throttle. It might seem a bit advanced for newcomers, but the kids often have RC experience, a lot of general craft experience and are pretty good with tools, etc.

This year we are using my version of Aerobat aviation's Geobat. I first modified this design about 10 years ago and have flown them in various sizes, including glow and electric.  Of course there is nothing new about CL saucers as this FOX NEWS link shows.

There a small reflection on the fin in the photo of the top view for some reason.

Kewl.  My mom taught 4H sewing for a few years -- I can still remember having half a dozen barely-working sewing machines in the attic.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I just talked to a guy at the Monroe swap meet about this very thing.  This guy build trains with the 4H and wants to hook up with someone to teach control line and RC modeling.  I'm going to bring it up at our RC meeting this week, we are trying to plan some kind of model plane clinic this summer, like sport clinics.  The 4H thing sounds better though, those kids are there to learn and not because they are force to go.  High school students need some kind of Senior Project and a model airplane project would work.

I like the way you think Duke. See you at the meeting. I might be able to help. Being retired and I have family up in that valley as well so it is a win win situation for me.

What meeting are you going to?  This is something my RC club is talking about here in Olympia.

I will do my best to be at Izzy pizza tonight in Lacey on 11Feb2014. To me RC and CL are all the same thing.  I hope I can help Duke.
