Title: 30 year trimming project
Post by: john vlna on September 30, 2012, 08:06:00 PM
Back in 1982 there was a free flight profile model of the Japanese Shinden published in Model aviation (Aug 1982). The Shinden was an experimental pusher canard build near the end of WW II. I thought it would make an interesting CL model so I built one using the FF plans. It wasn't a very good flier but ever so often I get it out and try some different trimming tricks.  A few years ago I converted it to electric power after 27 years as a COX reed valve powered plane. Slowly performance improved. Today after 30 years I am finally done. It flies very well. The electric motor is a 100W 1700Kv using an APC 6x4. With a 3 cell Lipo it is very fast. I use a 2.4 GHz radio to control the throttle. I don't have a photo handy but I'll post something tomorrow. The problem now is that it is getting to be pretty rough with all the repairs and modifications, so I'll have to build a new one I guess.

Sounds like you have it almost done.   I remember a fellow modeller that spent 20 years on a scale model for CL.  First NATS with it he took a first place.
