Micro Fasteners has all sorts of neat stuff. 3-48 nuts and bolts but do not list any 3-48 blind nuts.
https://www.microfasteners.com/
I have not found a source for these things for several years. They sometime show up on eBay.

RTL https://www.rtlfasteners.com also has 3-48 hardware, but no T-nuts.

There is a real deal on the bay right now. One package of DuBro 3-48 Blind Nuts that used to sell for 20 cents is up for bid right now. Buy it now for $12.99 plus $4.75 for shipping.

MM,
I'll let you know I've been watching for that size for about a year. No, I won't pay $13 for NOS parts that small.
I decided to build down to 2-56 for those places that 3-48 are called for. Even my BHM Mosquito uses 2-56 hardware to hold the Norvel Big Mig .074 engines on. No loss there for the smaller hardware.
I tried to see what metric stuff may substitute so I can get closer to the optimum/unobtainium 3-48 stuff. From what I researched, it would have to be M2.5, but no T nuts exist. Next size up is M3, but that is really close to 4-40.
So we are SOL except for eBay's golden bolt sets.

I have been trying to find a source for 3-48 blind nuts, but so far no luck. I will keep searching.

airborne-models.com has M2.5 blind nuts

Bill,
Thanks for the info. They are rather pricey at $1.50 for 4 pieces. I have requested a quote for quantities.

I have been making brass insert's using course brass bolts ,cutting them to length to go the full depth of the motor mount and tapping them for 3/48. I would need to look and see what size bolts I use ,six or 8/24 or 32

Mr. Bill,
Thanks a bunch! That M2-5 is really close to the major diameter of #3 (.0990").
This is probably why no one stocks (or makes) #3 stuff anymore.
Y'all better get yours, because I'm about to buy that vendor out! Well, about to order a couple dozen anyway.
-
Well, email came back. Vendor was clear..."There they are (link to the nuts), and that is the price." Followed by their Chinese source is charging an extra 25% these days.
I hope #4 hardware or M3 hardware fits my bigger engines...OS LA .15, Norvel .15, Norvel .25, Cox .09 and .15. I don't want to trust #2 with those engines.
At least we know someone somewhere is making M2.5...off to hunt it down now!
-
Ok...some more digging. Oddly, the url says M2, but the description shows M2.5. Promising, especially given $6 for 50! Florida address to boot!

I'll send an email later.

I hate to thread-jack, but if Mr. Whitney is still watching...
Mr Whitney, could you start another thread and showcase the work? I'm intrigued by the idea and would like to see a few examples. I assume you epoxy the inserts into place.
Thanks in advance.

my pictures are too big to post here but send me your address and I will try to walk through how I make the 3/48 brass incerts

For everyone looking for any kind of bolts or nuts go to the website of Bolt Depot. They have everything in just about every size and metal strength. Grade 8, grade 5 and stainless and oxide coated. You can buy 1 piece or 1,000 pieces whatever you need and I have found that they are less expensive than anyone else. You go from 256 to -56 to 1/2 inch diameter. Go to Bolt Depot's website and look around. You will be surprised at the prices and contents. However, the only thing they do not carry are blind nuts. Hope this helps.

These would work just epoxy in

Having a hard time finding those 3-48 blind nuts with the 3/4" bolts in the same pack that Perfect use to sell. Can't find much of anything 3-48 really. Where do you get that stuff these days?
Thanks,
Motorman 8)
Hello! I have 20 packs or Dubro-134, 3-48 blind nuts that I'll probably never. They're yours for say ... $8 plus postage to your location.
