1/4a Control Line
« on: July 22, 2012, 09:31:30 AM »
How many planes do you guys know of that take a Pee Wee? I know of the Queen Bee, Little Gem, and the Lil Stingray. I have plans for the first two. And am image of the last. I love building and flying these little guys. Does anyone know of any more? Or is capable of converting my image file to a pdf?

The Wee One is a flapped full bodied stunter designed for the Tee Dee .010 but states Pee Wee as well on the plans. Ken

I *think* I have some printed plans for the Wee One.  Been a long time since I saw them, though.

I would love to build the Wee Wun. I have never built a plane with flaps.

What about Combat planes of this size? I know Ray Stone had one but it is not on his site.

Randy Heydon published the "Little Bit" in Model Aviation with a bladder fed Tee Dee .010.  Full pattern performance.  Then he did the "Little Bit More" for the Tee Dee .020.  I don't recall if he published that one.

The problem with the Pee Wee is the non-stunt tank.  Pity that Cox never came out with a higher capacity stunt tank for it.  Of course some aftermarket machining genius could provide us with a source for one, and I would be first in line to buy a couple!
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

The Little Bit sounds cool. Do you think you could dig up the plans or direct me to them? I honestly think I will have to about build all of the 1/4a planes. What I intended to do with the Pee Wee is drill the tank and then add a separate metal stunt tank. However, Ray just filled me in on how to do a balloon tank. So I imagine that will be the route I take.

Here are some things that were posted on the other forum over the past several years:

Do a search on ".010 engine" on that forum and you will get a number of posts over the years. One shows a list of published articles for the Cox .010 at

http://www.clstunt.com/htdocs/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=103&topic_id=301577&mesg_id=301577&listing_type=search#301595

Specifically, from Feb 25, 08, a list there shows:

There have been several plans published for the TD .010 engine to be used for CL with some maneuvering capability. These things are more capable of turning that elusive 5 foot corner than any of the bigger ships.

Charles Mackey had the Liberty Bell, an all sheet thing, wing planform was in a shape, somewhat, of a bell. All sheet wing from 3/32 inch sheet. engine offset about 45-degrees like Charles did with his Red Wing and Monster designs. Could do the pattern on 15 to 20 foot lines. American Modeler, Sep 67.

Harold Price had the Lil Stingray, American Modeler, Nov/Dec 64. Flew the pattern on 20 foot lines, 18 inch span, .75 oz total, maybe 60 sq in, twin boom.

Randy Heydon's Little bit was in Model Builder, January 79. Conventional configuration, 24 inch span, 90 sq inches. Weighed 2.5 oz. 22 foot lines. I have seen this one fly and it did so surprisingly well.

Larry Scarinzi had a bipe for .020 engines, 11 inch span. about 65 sq in. Flew on 15 foot lines. Model airplane News, Jun 60.

There may be more, but this is what I found after a quick check in my files. Plans for some of these might be available from the AMA plans service.

AMA has plans for the Lil Stingray. 18" Span and CL so I hope it is what I want and not some other plane. They also have Little Bit but it is RC.

Hi Jacob,

That should be Harold Price's design.  I have the original magazine around here *somewhere*, it shouldn't take more than a year or two o find it! LL~ LL~ LL~

Hey Mr. King,

That Micro RM looks neat. Is the bellcrank on top of the wing? I noticed the leadout guide template as well. I have the Baby Ringmaster with a Black Widow tank attached to a Killer Bee engine block. Very nice.

Mr Little,

Tell me if you ever find that magazine. I would like to see the entire article. Then again, what I have may be the whole thing. Not sure. I still need to see if someone can convert this jpg to pdf. That would help save some money. My budget is limited so I have to work with what I got. I would have bought tons of Barry Baxter's plans if I could.

Wow. I just saw a picture of the Little Bit from a thread in Oct 8, 2011. That is a nice plane! I also checked outerzone and got plans for the Wee One (Barry has one called Wee Wun). Randy Heydon offered scans but no one posted a reply. The thread is here ( http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php?topic=23558.0 ). So now I need plans for: Little Bit,  and the Lil Stingray.

Jacob,
Please call me Pat. The bellcrank sits on top of the wing on the Micro Ringmaster Stunter, there is not enough room inside the wing for a standard bellcrank.

Thanks,  Pat

I always made micro bellcranks out of plywood. Work nicely. Just have to make a good bushing. I use fuel tubing and a washer. Only problem is tubing will eventually rot. Brass would be better.

Ok. Here is the plan. I will build the Little Bit and have a hatch in the front. I will partition off a section of the nose to allow it to hold a balloon tank. This will either run through a hole in the backplate or go through the firewall into the side of the tank. The partitioned section will be totally fuel proofed just in case the bladder falls apart. The plans may show a hatch naturally. Do not know yet.

Does anyone see any issues with this? I do not want to screw this up too bad.
