Title: 1/2A MAGAZINE
Post by: LARRY RICE on September 25, 2010, 04:46:51 PM
I am looking to see if there is enough interest in a 1/2A ONLY magazine.  It would cover a construction article with plans, tips on flying and building, kit reviews famous people and much more.  4 issues per year; first issue free, $1.00 per issue after the first one and that covers the postage too.  It will be on a small for mat with 24 to 28 pages per issue.
     WOULD YOU BE INTERRESTED????

Thank You
Larry

The way that we can make the magazine so cheap is that I do not expect to make any money from it.  I will deduct the cost of it from our advertising budget and sell ads to stores at a very low price.  This means that it will take as much help from you as it does from me. You will need to tell us about local contest and get pictures to us.  The small for mat will mean 7 x 11" pages, this will keep both the printing and the shipping down.  At the same time I want this to be an interesting and informative magazine.
If this is a go the first issue would be out in January and it would be free. We will send them to stores and to your home.  Right now we are looking to sign up contributors for regular articles.

You might talk me into providing plans & construction article for some of my kits.  Just to stimulate sales perhaps.  (of my kits, not the magazine.)

Shameless blatant free advertising for me, maybe a couple of pages of filler for you.

Larry,

With your permission, I'll post a link to this thread on the other forum.

Their primary interest is collecting plastic RTF models from Comet, Cox, and others, but they have a very nice library of small engine and airplane photos as well.

To Bill Adair:
We are currently feeling out the waters right now ... but yes you can post this on other sites.  I would like to have a point of contact with that site as I have some questions about engine designers for our famous people section.  We will be covering Leroy Cox, Bill Atwood and others.

Rudi,
We do plan to ship overseas with a slight postage charge and I plan to make them available in England.  I will be asking our reps in England, Canada, Australia, Portugal and Estonia to submit articles for the magazine.

Thank You for responding.

Me three! LL~

I think a 1/2A mag would be SUPER!
Once there was a mag called the "JR American MODELER", that focused on the beginner and had many 1/2A plans and projects.
Taught MANY kids to fly using their "trainer" when I taught the NASA "Young Astronauts" program after school.

"Tight Lines!" H^^

Would you also be interested in including 1/2A sized electric powered models? I have built and flown them for the last 5 years or so. HobbyKing has motors, batteries and ESC's that make it very cost effective too. I think they are a good addition to that sized of CL model.

I would love to see electrics included also. Electrics for 1/2a are great, none of the tempermental problems the glow engines have, and they are easy to setup for throttle

Okay,  I am looking at getting the first issue out in January so we will be taking names, addresses and e-mails in November.  By then I should have something to look at.  The reason for this chat was to show that there would be enough interest for us to invest our time and money into it.
I have talked to the editor and made it clear that my interest would include all forms of 1/2A modeling and that the magazine should be readable by the common hobbyist especially the fun flier.
The magazine will be offered as both a hard copy and a lower priced PDF file. Prices are not set in stone yet but hard copies will include postage.
