NEW KIT
« on: August 09, 2009, 08:36:53 AM »
I will have pictures soon but I just wanted to let you know that we are launching a new line of kits designed for the Cox Surestart engines. The first kit is an "Eindecker E-III" and the next will be a "M-S Bullet" and the third is planned to be a PT-19 (not set in stone). These kits will be profiles in the Dick Sarpolus style but in a size for the Surestart engines. Each plane will come with landing gear and will be able to stunt. The Eindecker is due in production next week and the bullet in the following week.
This will make a plane and engine affordable again. We will also include a free control handle and line in every kit. The first dealers to get these kits will be Boone's Hobbies and Sam's Stuff and Hobbies.

Great news Larry.  It makes me think of a home for the old OK Cub .049B.  Now your handle, is it a copy of the old hard paper handle like I think I used to get in the Scientific kits.  Have fun,  DOC Holliday

No, Doc, Ours is my own design with some design features that I borrowed from Cox and is is 1/8" plywood. I remember the scientific handles as Perfect plastic ones. the free handle doesn't get the extra grips, only the center section.

It seemed like a really good idea 3 years ago when I put out 3 kits all designed around the Surestart production engine, but they pretty much fell flat.  I hope you have better success with yours; I still think there ought to be a market there.

Well, Ray, I wasn't to sure that they would sell either but as you know I don't sell direct, only through dealers, and I have already heard from 4 of them, they are salivating at the idea of having both the plane and engine on the same shelf.  #^
The only chance that I am taking, right now, is choosing witch planes I should make. I am stating with two World War I fighters and a trainer then maybe a civil plane and a couple of WW II planes. I think that would make for a nice selection. The guys who are flying them now seem to go for the WW II planes but I think the WW I planes will market well in England and the civilian plane in Canada.

With all due respect, I think you have the wing on the Eindecker backwards.  :-[

Are we about to witness the very first stunthanger Un-build thread? Or maybe the wing should be left as-is to prove the versatility of the Eindecker kit? There's always a bright side to every situation.

The PT-19 will be made up next week. It will be more of a trainer with an adjustable push rod, I am sure that it will still stunt but I am aiming it towards tyros. You know, more instructions and so-forth.
Sam's stuff has a standing order for two of everything new. The list price on these kits will be $28.00 and that includes full size plans, decals, U-4-Pilots, wheels and complete hardware. Not shown in the pictures is the nose doublers, since I am not building a flying model I left them off.

Great looking planes, Larry!

...Also, nice recovery on the fuselage being backwards instead of the wing.  ;D

These make excellent combat planes since they are so similar and use the same engines.

Larry:  where/how does the fuel tank mount?  What size/brand fuel tank do you recommend?

The plans show a simple mounting system. Insert a wire through the fuselage bent like a large staple. Bend the ends back so that you can hook rubber bands to them and slip the tank under the bands. A 1/2 oz to 3/4oz wedge tank from Brodak is a good choice. there is 2" from the nose to the wing and the tank could also mount above the wing or in a notch in the wing for a larger tank.

SO WHAT'S NEXT?
In the Sure Start line of kits what do you want to see next? I will be working on a PT-19 this weekend because Cox made it so famous.
I am Thinking of these:
Navy WildCat (WW-II)
Junkers J-9 (WW-I)
T-28
Mooney Cadet

What would you like?

On my death bed I am going to pass along the answers to the three great mysteries that have eluded mankind. 1- The meaning of all life on this planet. 2- The one simple cure for all diseases of man. 3- How to repaint a rudder of a model airplane in 10 minutes or less.

Well, Ray, we sold our first 50 so now we will see how it goes after they start showing up at flying sites. I still have a couple more designs that I want to get out, maybe later this month.
