What's it to you?

The event was created for people who don't fiddle with the rules.

The all out Fox 35 event is still there for you.

Paul, Maybe Bob is trying to help out a non-interweb savvy buddy get into the Fox Speed game? Just saying, it's a possibility.  TS

No people are being excluded from the contest.

But in events with expert and sportsman classes it is necessary to keep experts in their place.  This is common practice at The Brodak Fly In.

In the Foxberg and Clown Race events, not run by me, the practice of excluding proven high-performers for "sportsman" has been in place for almost a decade.

Having beaten the proscribed scores, I am prohibited from participating in sportsman in any way.  And that includes furnishing equipment to sportsmen. I have always complied with the rules.  I have often loaned equipment to other experts, but never to sportsmen.

OK, so all can fly, that's great and I am interested but what are the rules? No one answered Bob's question about what type of airframes are allowed?

If I heard the man right, I liked what he said about Fox 35 Stunt Speed.  Any plane can be used if the engine will stay with it and you can get the engine to fit.  Said the Cox PY-19 would be okay but engine wont fit.  Seen some gorgeous craft at St Louis yesterday from the every day type to the ultimate type of Bill Hughes.

Right.  We still have that event, just as pictured.

In 2017 we will also have a Sportsman class with stock stunt engines, aerobatic sport planes, and expect engine-builders not allowed.

Maybe you could include a list of names who broke 90 MPH so I can add them to the expert list.

A Super Whipsaw with a landing gear, suction tank and a stock plain bearing stunt engine would be nice.

Thank you.  Did you do 74 with a plane that would qualify for Sportsmans Stock Stunt Speed at The Brodak?  If so, you would be the fastest in that class.

EXPERT list for Stunt Speed at The Brodak.  This is based on Brodak & Saint Louis results.
Carl Schaefer, Al Ferraro, Jim Vigani, Henry Nelson, Bill Hughes, and John Moll.  These six are invited to attend the 2017 Brodak and try to do better with their modified engines and speed planes.

Everybody else is welcome to enter either the Sportsman Class or the "Saint Louis Rules" unlimited class.

The airplane I flew had an OS Needle valve with a RSM Hemi-Head, no other modifications

Have you posted what the Stock 35 Stunt Speed rules are? You would need that if you plan on having a specific event like that at a sanctioned contest.

As noted by at least one engine builder, the original rules did not disallow increasing the displacement as much as possible within the Fox case.  Rev 1 plugged that loophole.  The stated displacement of the Fox 35 Stunt is .352, with a bore of 0.8" and a stroke of 0.7".  I guess a different bore & stroke that stays under the limit would still be legal.  As with all engine limits, the limit is the limit with NO tolerance.

In practice, actual measurement is rare, except for records and protests.

here are the RULES for the Sportsman Stunt Speed Class:

SPORTSMAN STUNT SPEED
This is a participation event created as an alternative to Fox 35 Stunt Speed which is an engine builders’
event. The intent is to provide an event that can be flown with stock engines and existing airframes. As
such, contestants who have exceeded 90 MPH in Fox 35 Speed or who enter Fox 35 Steed at this
contest are excluded.
Airframes – This event allows on sport planes with built up or foam airfoil wings and the general
configuration of a sport plane and are capable of doing basic aerobatics such as a lazy eight of reverse
wingover. The airplane must ROG from a fixed landing gear.
Engines - Only stock plain bearing baffled-piston engines of the nominal 35 size are allowed. Since
venture size data for the whole world of engines is unavailable, any fixed venturi is permitted. The
suction fuel requirement effectively limits choke area. All Johnson and Supertigre engines and Foxes
other than the 35 Stunt are excluded.

Lines and Laps.
 Perky: .014” x 52’-6’’ - 16 laps.
 Sportsman Stunt Speed: .015’ x 59’-6” - 7 laps.
 Fox 35: .016” x 60’-0” - 14 laps.
Fuel  10% nitromethane with an assortment of oils; 29%, 23% and 20%
