Folks;

What would be a good air frame for the Brodak Sportsman Stunt Speed event?

Thanks in advance.

From what I understand it should be a model that is capable of some kind of aerobatics, such as loops and inverted flight. I have no idea about area limits. I have not seen a set of rules. They were supposed to have been submitted to Mr. Brodak and be posted on his website, so you might check there.

Even though I haven't seen the rules.  Make it simple.  Signal the judges to start watch and entrant starts engine.   Flies a recognizable pattern and watch stops when wheels quit rolling or as plane resumes normal level flight after the clover.

Another idea is like Tulsa did with their Top Gun event for the old combat planes last year.  Check their site for the rules.       tulsacl.com

I'm not trying to overlegislate.  It's open to all the profile stunters, sport planes, slow combat, Foxberg racers, etc.
We want to see something that looks like an airplane, can takeoff from the ground and at least do some basic stunts.

I'm using kind of a cross between a Flying Clown and a Super Clown with the Clown airfoil.  It's needs to have some sort of airfoil wing, built up or foam.

The other event, Fox 35 Speed, is for those who want to use rat or TR types.

In  this context we're talking about using stock Stunt ENGINES, not doing the stunt pattern.

Plain bearing baffled-piston 35's.  As published elsewhere, there's list of approved engines and some that are excluded.

The event is simply the best speed for 7 laps, a half-mile, from a flying start.

This has been added as a variation to the Fox 35 Stunt Speed event that quickly evolved into all-out speed engines in rat-type airframes.

http://brodak.com/fly-in/

You can use any airplane as long as it can do a lazy 8 and a reverse wingover. Any 35 engine with a baffle piston with SuperTiger, Johnson and Fox engines not allowed save the Fox 35 Stunt.

Basically a stock fox 35 stunt on the smallest plane that will do a few stunts should win it.

Okee dokee!  It'll do those and some that haven't been named yet  LL~ !  Thanks!

I think the Brodak Super Fly would do a good job of defining the limit.  If you do a lazy eight or a reverse wingover with it?

Paul, Does the entrant have to perform the lazy 8 or reverse wingover before the official timing begins?  TS

here ya go guys:

SPORTSMAN STUNT SPEED
This is a participation event created as an alternative to Fox 35 Stunt Speed which is an engine builders’
event. The intent is to provide an event that can be flown with stock engines and existing airframes. As
such, contestants who have exceeded 90 MPH in Fox 35 Speed or who enter Fox 35 Steed at this
contest are excluded.
Airframes – This event allows on sport planes with built up or foam airfoil wings and the general
configuration of a sport plane and are capable of doing basic aerobatics such as a lazy eight of reverse
wingover. The airplane must ROG from a fixed landing gear.

Engines - Only stock plain bearing baffled-piston engines of the nominal 35 size are allowed. Since
venture size data for the whole world of engines is unavailable, any fixed venturi is permitted. The
suction fuel requirement effectively limits choke area. All Johnson and Supertigre engines and Foxes
other than the 35 Stunt are excluded.

Lines and Laps.
 Perky: .014” x 52’-6’’ - 16 laps.
 Sportsman Stunt Speed: .015’ x 59’-6” - 7 laps.
 Fox 35: .016” x 60’-0” - 14 laps.
Fuel  10% nitromethane with an assortment of oils; 29%, 23% and 20%

I think doing it once any time would suffice for the whole event.

if asked to do a couple of maneuvers, I am sure it would probably qualify for the entire event.

We can only ask when we get there.

I got something together for Sportsman Speed.  Powered by a 60-year old K&B greenhead.  Silk-and-dope, linen hinges, Tornado 8-8, clockwise.

Weight should be 24 ounces once I make a tank.  I had lots of extra CLown/Super Clown ribs, so I used 'em on this.

Now I can focus on the Perky.

Flying Clowns & Super Clowns can be used for a lot of things.

This Clown was set up for Old Time Carrier with a good bit of success.
