BRODAK SHOOT OUT WARM UP Middlesex NJ
« on: June 06, 2016, 10:56:04 PM »
Even though the weatherman's forecast Sunday was for 100% chance of rain and thunder storms in Middlesex NJ, most of the guys showed up to get their first flights in Fox Speed and Perky. We had clear skies from 11:00am till we left 6 hours later. Now we are ready for the Shoot Out next week at BRODAK. It's going to be Awesome!

Here's some pictures from the BRODAK SHOOT OUT WARM UP at Middlesex.  The Whipsaw is my first "speed" plane that's based on my old Rat Racer I designed when I was in high school.  I did manage to knock off the landing gear but it's pretty much all fixed.  Al's Blaster won the day.

Good looking line up of planes.  I know a couple of the kids in the people line up.   Now go show them how to do it at Brodaks. H^^

Gee, I'm glad Sparky got things going for us. Thanks, Sparkie!!
As Al reported, we did hold a contest on Sunday. Great conditions if a bit damp. Due to the wet conditions the fellows voted to use stranded lines. Al's time is all legit except his .016 solid lines were a bit longer than required.

    Fox .35   1. Al Ferrarro   104.3
                  2. C.T. Schaefer  103.8
                  3. Jim Vigani     93.5
                  4. T. Hampshire  81.25
                  5. Raul Diaz       66.0
                  6. Dave Edwards  N/T

   Perky       1. Raul Diaz       72.85

There were 3 other Perky's on the field but they were not flown. Most of our energy and enthusiasm was expended on the Fox planes.  What's the big deal.....The Ringmaster has a Fox and it starts on one flip!!

It was fun to see Tom Hampshire's (normally a stunt guy) Veco Redskin blast around the circle with a very solid engine run and decent speed. I can almost hear the wheels turning in his head. In varying degrees, the 3 top finishers planes did not run 'perfectly' but well enough to be encouraging. Ourselves as well as everybody else who is entered, are looking forward to 'getting it all together' for The Big One  at Brodak.  Cheers, TS

The Whipsaw just crawled around for one and half laps then the engine kicked in. It still managed to go 93 MPH with some big top end speed.

I start out with a .280 drill bit and then I clean it up a little by hand. The Whipsaw was not running a fuel filter and probably picked up something from the tank.

I have the high Zoot crank in my engine and the hole is only.320, plus the stroke is .009 shorter than the stock Fox crank that I removed so I am running a small block LOL. Some other guys also asked to add on another Fox speed contest to one of are future contest dates, so we will try to make that happen.
I'm looking forward to see the Fox with the full wave pipe go at Brodak. I never tried one yet.

fun is like fishing......"the fish is where you finds em" Bob has been feeding me pictures for several months now and we've been "leaking" info out about the RR piped engine he's been making. Hey.....ya gotta do something in the winter, right? Anyway, I hope to be able to write it up for Flying lines magazine when all is said and done.
Wish I could be there to play speed with youse guys.

 WHAT YOUR NOT GOING mw~
In that case Ill leave you a photo of my engine.
I will try to grab a camera from Sparky and take some video too. If we had some teenagers with some fancy phones we could do some live streaming, that would be cool.
The BLASTER has been checked over and reset for the Shoot Out and will be on the road tomorrow morning with that fast DARTH VADER speed pan plane.
