Griffin Rayette
« on: March 26, 2010, 11:16:48 AM »
Well I talked  Mike into making me a short kit of "The Gialdini Rayette".   Very well done kit.  All the parts usually needing cutting with the old E-Axcto were laser cut.  He even left the fuse sides full length, only needing to laminate them.  Those that got the full sould be very elated, but I wanted the option to pick my spars and sheeting.  When and if I get around to assembling the "Rayette" I will post pictures.

John,

I bought the full kit, and yes, I am elated! This is clearly the nicest kit I've ever purchased. The wood is all of first quality, as one would expect from a modern kit, so I think you would have been satisfied with Mike Griffin's wood selection for the spars and sheeting anyway.

This is the first "modern" kit I've bought, where the maker was a modeler who carefully picked the wood, versus older mass-produced kits with mediocre balsa and poor die-cutting. My only experience with lasers has been the repair of the retinas in my eyes, so this use is very impressive indeed! Plywood parts are also beautifully laser cut. Landing gear blocks and nicely bent gear are also included. A copy of the original American Modeler plan is here, plus a page of notes from Mike. The kit was also packed in a sturdy box, so it arrived in perfect condition, a relief after reading some of the horror stories here and elsewhere of smashed boxes.

So I'm elated and ready to start, especially since my wing jigs from Control Line Central arrived the same day! Yee Haw!

I will have to agree with you both,  bought the kit and it is excellent.   I may move it around some of my planned builds and start soon.  Thanks for great work Mike !!!!!!

I received my Rayette kit a couple of weeks ago but it was only this past weekend that I was able to check it out.  I agree with all of the previous kudos.  In addition Mike is a terrific guy to deal with.  I highly recommend both Mike and his products.
