The airplane has been re-named to BABY BI SLOB, it is a Bi-Slob for beam mount .049 to .061 engines. The airplane has an 18 1/8” wingspan and 225 square inches of wing area. All balsa in the kit is contest balsa. The kit includes all the control system parts, the wheels, and the tail wheel mount. The hardware is included because the control system construction is critical to get the desired throws in the small envelope. If you have a strong beam mount .049 - .061 and want a fun airplane for extreme flight this one is for you. The first kits will sell for $85.00 plus shipping. Figure shipping costs on a medium Priority Mail triangular mailer, 37” long, 6 x 6, and 3 pounds.
I will be offering the SLOB 60 in the future, 900 square inches in a 36” span insanity airplane.

It's coming along. I'm reverse engineering some parts in my mind while constructing it to understand exactly what's going on with the control system, and the best assembly method. So far, so good. T he control system is a work of art. It's a remarkable system that should provide the throw needed and last forever. I'm building it 100% as per the plans with only kit supplied materials. That way i can accurately recreate Pat's design.

I love building this kit, everything is exceptional. Lots of 1/32 sheet going on here! Be patient and work slow with the sheet. The only thing I'll recommend as an addition to what's included if your covering with iron on, would be to double up the tip ribs, or perhaps make them out of 1/8th. I used microlite covering and pulled the tip ribs on the first wing. Microlite has the least tension while shrinking (in my opinion ). I used it to prevent pulling on the fragile structure.
So, before covering, strengthen up the tip ribs somehow. Thanks!

OK, so as per Pats suggestion, 1/8 on the tip ribs. I had already built the wings, so I chose to add another 1/16 rib outside. Just clamped on a 1/16 sheet and sanded to match. I'll finish covering on Saturday.

OK, so I removed the covering from the distorted tip ribs. I cut the covering all the way to the next rib. That'll be easier to hide the seem. Pulled the covering and the rib straightened right out. I then glued on an additional 1/16 sheet to create the 1/8 tip rib.

First repair panel done. I'm kinda torn. I know how to avoid that little over lap on the TE, just don't know that I want to. The strength and fuel resistance are pretty high on this patch. I think I'll leave it and see if it's even noticeable when the wings are attached. This can be the bottom wing.

Ok, attempting to finish this plane this weekend. Before kids, this would only be a days long project!

I beveled the elevator. Then covered it. I hinged it using old floppy disc discettes. They're more free moving that ca hinges.

I've installed the stab/ele assembly at this time. I locked the bell crank on center and checked neutral.

Now that the elevator is locked into place, the flap linkage is easy to make straight. Hold the ball directly in the hinge line. Cut the rod as shown by the mark in the pic. It's about 1/16 back from the rounded part. This allows the rod to thread in all the way, but have a little adjustability still.

After the linkage is completed, then the wing can be attached. Keep the elevator locked in place while you adjust the flap link. This concludes the ball link installation. Keep in mind, this is a small plane and the surfaces must move free. There are a lot of attachment points for the control system linkage. All that friction adds up. Squeeze each ball link on the ball with some stiff needle nose pliers to free them up

Ok I got the bottom flap hinged in. I'll make the drag link tomorrow. I just need to install the wing struts,finish the landing gear, rudder and engine. I'll try to finish it up tomorrow!

Unfortunately, I took on the shop supervisor position and stopped traveling. I used to hit up the cat paving factory in oseo park MN all the time. I flew at Grass field RC park many a time. Would be lovely to fly with you Shug.any time you make it to Vegas, come fly with the Las Vegas circle burners!

Did the Grassfield guys let you fly Control line? I have been thinking about getting our club to go and let some rc flyers fly our planes and hopefully be able to share some of their space. At least give it a shot.

When I was there, those dudes were open to anything in the air!

Here's the test of the wings being built straight. ...the struts are laser cut to follow the curve of the tip rib. If the wings aren't straight, you'll see it here. Mine lined up excellent. ..lol.

Engine install and rudder is the only things left.

Ok, we have a rudder! Holding this plane is like holding a high quality stunt plane. It's so stiff and rugged feeling. Should provide some excellent durability over the grass field.
Engine mounting is all that's left. Flight testing coming soon!

Awesome news!!! With the norvel 061, perfect balance! No weight needed anywhere! It feels light, but I still haven't got a scale. I'll go to Larry's house and weigh it.
I found an old pack of dubro 3-48 motor mount hardware. I was pretty excited. I will make a cool little fueler to prevent as much fuel on the finish as possible, but I don't forsee any problems with that

Done! I stuck a brass tube in the drill and turned it down with a #11 blade. If you do this, please be careful and keep the drill speed slow! The poor mans lathe requires a gentle hand. ...lol. I used this tube to cut a clean hole in the fuse for the tank line.
A fueling tube on top, and a drain hose on the bottom.

Any one in or near Vegas wanna come pick this up and test fly it??

Pat, as always, did an amazing job with the kit lay out and design. Everything just falls together. I should have logged the time, but honestly is just a few hours. It's by no means a gorgeous finish. I half @$$ sanded. It's better than ARF quality, but that's it. ....lol

Well after an hour and a half of trying to get the Norvell running, I decided to just give up before I got p! $$3d and do something I'd regret. So we packed up and went home. I'll try again tomorrow

Sometimes the head needs some heat gun action to expand the cylinder a little, as those engines are quite tight at the top when new.

This one is a good used engine. It was pulled after a crash, but ran great. As it turns out, the nva was bent. It's an RC carb. So the needle was against the wall of the inlet bar. So no fuel. I got the engine running for a little bit, but couldn't adjust the needle.

I've just ordered a venturi set from nvengines.com so I'll test again very soon. We're all excited to get this thing flying
