The "Mark" of Excellence.

Mark, you're up early! I am also, adding a bit of color to my Stuka Tank Buster.

I see you're not to far from being a Master Jedi also.  H^^

Tons of truth to that.

I'm sure the model is professionally built, has to be, coming from the Dojo of....

"The Master Jedi himself, Fred Cesquim."  BW@

I like the layout and that extra thin line truly makes quite a difference! Nice.

Can you tell us something about the model's construction and your choice of paint products?

It is a kit, and nothing special... covering is SLC plus silkspan, and I'm using DUCO paint and will spray some 2part clear.
The color scheme is the owner's choice.
I should clear it tomorrow, weather cooperating...

Was the SLC over or under the Silkspan?  ??? If under, what prep did you need for finish. If over, same question.

Also, what was the weight gain before color per square foot of finished area?  H^^

hello Larry
i have SLC covered the open bays, brushed dope (4x) and then covered the entire model with sylkspan (5x brusehd dope)
the sylkspan was about 40 years old, almost falling apart
to be honest, i see no point of using SLC again, turns out heavy (due to the dope build up) and i see no advantage against polyspan
first and last time i use it
sylkspan only for sheeted surfaces now. or carbon veil...
i really don´t understand why some modellers uses SLC over sylkspan, ok, will be stronger, but the paint adhesion is poor.
and what´s the point of the sylkspan under it?
anyway Marcos mande a great finish to this plane! look forward to fly her!

I agree that SLC under silkspan is a waste of time and weight. SLC OVER the fiber with NO DOPE on the fiber yields a strong, light surface. Scrubbing the SLC with steel wool or a scotch pad will give a surface that is ready for primer.

See the thread on this. The people who have tried it love it.

exactly, the problem with the duo sylkspan/slc is weight
slc over sylkspan seems to me useless, as slc alone is stronger than sylkspan and enough to proveide wing strenght. then you can paint over slc, but i still rather paint over ultracote, almost same weight and you already have the base color PLUS makes compound curvers perfectly
my ast plane was first covered with the sylkspan/slc, turned out heavy, i stripped all and ultracoted the red on the wings, yellow is paint

The SLC over polyspan provides a finish or finish base at a lighter weight penalty than a dope finish. NO DOPE ON THE FIBER BASE, NONE, NADA, NICHT, NEIN. Massive weight saving, instant smooth finish base.

If you use a park flyer film over undoped polysan, you are done. If you want a paintet fancy finish, go for SLC over the fiber base, and apply a finish from the primer up, no covering fill or fiber fillers required.

There are several advantages over just SLC overing. First, a puncture will not spread into a rip, it will remain a simple hole. Second, the torsional resistance is phenominal.

THOSE WHO HAVE TRIED IT SEE THE MERITS.  H^^
