Windy Interview

Paul Taylor has convinced Windy to do a phone interview. I would like you all to post some questions here that we will ask and talk about here.

Please ask how Miles, Karen, Cardinal Field, the birds and the fish are. I thought the little whip gliders Windy made for Miles were very clever.

I am still following Windy's videos and still picking things up from him. I fixed a couple of phone holders using the carbon fiber and CA techniques that he uses on motorcycle fairings.

Thank you,
Mark

Did that already!!
Put a 35 DCOE on an early 70s Commando.
The Amals worked better.

Ask Windy:

- which of his planes was his all-time favorite?
- of everyone else's planes, which was his favorite?
- which of his planes was his best flying plane?
- of everyone else's planes, which one did he think flew best?
- If Big Jim were still around, what would he and Big Jim design today?
- What plane does he still have floating around in his head that he'd like to build?
- And how about a P-61 Black Widow, electric powered, for stunt?

I'd love to hear what he has to say on these.

Scott

Ask Windy what he thinks of Wesly Dick's slotted flap system?
Would he fly one just to feel the plane in maneuvers

It's a leaking tomato can carburetor

Amal Concentrics work just fine if you chrome the slides and hone the body for fit
My 71 Bonny has the smoothest idle and VERY crisp throttle response.

I don't know Windy personally but, going by his videos with the excellent questions posted there should be quite a bit of dialog. I think once you get hI'm going.......energizer  bunny! Lol

On one of his tapes he mentions something about something like ' damp towels ' on stored motorcycle tyres to stop dry rot ! LL~

Would appreciate his storage tips for antique motorcycle tyres , thanks . H^^

I had my own interview with Windy this afternoon.  Windy was busy baby-sitting (playing) with his Grandson.  He is full-on into being a Grand-Dad with the same intensity he used to focus on building his planes.  But Windy is careful not to "push", he recognizes that it will be his Grandson's decision as to whether he likes little league, model airplanes, or what-ever.  So, from what I can tell, just like his "classic" airplanes, Windy is being the "classic" Grandfather.  His Grandson will only be 5 once and Windy very wisely wants to spend this time with his Grandson.

Windy says "Hi!" to everyone and sends his best wishes to all.

Scott,
I'm interested in what you got out of your interview with Windy besides what was stated here. I plan on dropping him a note. I do find his videos quite informative. A lot of fluff but, some good info sneaks in if you listen closely. I just finished my first real stunt plane and referred to his videos quite often.

thanks,
Tom

Larry - you're correct about the Amal concentric. My Bonneville and Trident were equipped with them - no problems.

BUT, one of my motocross bikes, a Bultaco Pursang was equipped with a side float Amal - a real disaster.
A Mikuni and a reed pyramid solved all the problems.

I'm no expert with this C/L stuff ,but I'm damn good with Nortons. Here's a pic of my highly modified 72 Commando. Built from a bike that sat outside in a salvage yard for 25 years! Took 2 years to complete. Runs perfectly....PhillySkip

Spraying on straight thinner should do it too. It just melts the dope long enough to let the blushing moisture escape.
