We wait with bated breath.

Re: The Combat events...

Wonder how the Minors did? Rod Christie? Did the Maulin' Mears Brothers attend?  Who won what?

Inquiring minds want to know!

I too wait for results as I didn't make the short drive.  Grand kids sure put a kink in things.  I know it would have cost me a lot less moolah to have driven down, if only just to spectate.   Weather here in Shawnee was stunt heaven. H^^

Saturday was combat; I didn't watch closely since I was conducting a stunt judging clinic. Surely someone who was there flying combat can post the scores and the news. Fast Eddie was there, along with all 3 of the Minors and Jeff Johnson..

Sunday was perfect weather followed by a perfect storm of bad luck. Lew Woolard wasn't there.
He went in the hospital on Friday October 21.  Julie Woolard wasn't there; she was at the hospital with Lew. Elaine Brookins wasn't there; she had recently had an operation on her hand. Lew is the stunt event director, and has all the stunt stuff at his house.. Julie and Elaine normally handle the stunt forms and paperwork.

It all worked out to everyone's satisfaction; there were a few interesting moments along the way.
I'll write more later.

Thanks De for the run down. Wow... sounds like just about everything that could go wrong almost went wrong!

Yes, hope someone will post up some results so we can see how the combat events went.

Excellent pictures Elwyn... as usual!  Thanks.

I uploaded these pics from the Wichihawks facebook page.

Jared Hays, 1st Expert Stunt

Andy Minor, 1st Advanced Stunt
Cary Minor, 2nd Advanced Stunt

Jared Hays, 1st Profile Stunt
Cary minor, 2nd Profile Stunt
Andy Minor, 3rd Profile Stunt

Jared Hays, 1st Classic Stunt

Gary Mundry, 1st Old Time Stunt
Jared Hays, 2nd Old Time Stunt

Not sure about combat placings but there was a badass cutaway/flyaway by the Minors lol  Went all the way across the Kansas Turnpike.  Nothing was damaged other than the plane and it was found quickly.

Elwyn and I left Tulsa at 6:45 am and headed for Wichita; it took 3 hours to get there. We arrived at Planeview Park in Wichita, and met  Steve Albers, Doug Burright, Gary Mondry, and Pat McElraby. We put on a stunt clinic and Gary Mondry flew several flights to train the new judges.

Sunday morning, Bob Brookins showed up at the contest, and we watched the new judges score the contestants in Beginner, Advanced, Expert, Old time Stunt, Classic, and profile stunt. After it was over, Bob Brookins handed out the stunt awards.

I called Lew Woolard at the hospital last night (Monday, Oct. 24) and he sounded good and said that he should get out of the hospital today.

It was a relief to hear him sounding like he normally does.

Thanks for the report De, and Elwyn for the picks. I am still getting over this bug I have had most of the summer and had oral surgery on Monday, so did not make it down. I hope next year goes better and my back gets well enough to fly again. I sure miss the comradery and flying fun.

Hey Jim,  you can still go and BS, unless the driving gets to you.   My hip used to get hurting so bad when I would drive any distance, I would have to stop somewhere and walk around the vehicle.   I went to Tulsa for the combat get together and spectated most of the time.   Now it's the knees in which I have to loosen them up after standing or sitting for any length of time.  Sure missed going to Wichita, but the old purse ran out of money.
