The ARGO, My New Ride, is back!
« on: June 15, 2016, 06:13:18 PM »
For anyone that has ever Posted photos there is an option to bring them back, a good many anyway.

JUST REPOST!

Plus, my guess is there are new members who have not see some past work.

The Forum isn't the same without photos.

So, for those that haven't seen this model, here's the ARGO.

I hope it's well received.

I need your finishing skills. I have no patience for it.

Perry,

Have you seen Robert's "How to" videos? He has the complete process from the first cut of balsa to the last coat of clear.

Mine are just so so, but Robert's models are really built correctly and painted perfectly.

Check out his videos, they will make you want to build lighter and better models.

That's the effect they had on me.

Thanks for the reply.

Glenn,

Hey! Hey! Glenn, almost my only poster.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm trying to bring life back to the Forum with photos, I'm hoping other modelers will do the same.

I also have many photos of models that aren't mine. I'm giving some thought on how they could be used?

What have you been up to?

I haven't been doing much of anything.  Building a few free flight models, but that's about it.  So far the weather here has NOT been conducive to flying!  Rain, rain, rain, rain....etc and repeat! HB~>

Since You are not a member of the ruling class, I can assure you that you would lose your job,
your security clearance(and never gain another), and your reputation. You would be prosecuted, fined,
and probably serve time.
The question is how long will we stand for such an insult to our moral and ethical sensibilities?

Prior to perestroika, here is my classified cold war era A.C. Gilbert .074 Thunderhead for a capitalistic pig price of $6.98 back in 1963, when in 1971 I bought my first Testors McCoy .19 Red Head from America's Hobby Center for $6 plus shipping. To fulfill my moral and ethical sensibilities, I put it in a high performance Ringmaster Variant Gee Bee Z suitable for glasnost Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon. If I were to fly it in the DC area, I'd probably be prosecuted, fined, and probably serve time. Attached are Wikileaks photos.

Charles, I love your color choice.  The green reminds me of Steve Wooley's Argus.  He called it "Pond slime green!"
I always thought it was prettier than that.
Nice job, very nice.

Charles, how does "The ARGO" fly? IMO, that's the burning question. I'd like it better with the engine mounted inverted, but at least it's IC powered!

The green is nice. I would like "lime sherbet" or even "orange sherbet" on a stunter. Which reminds me, I was speaking with Howard at last week's NW Skyraider's meeting, and I mentioned having Mango ice cream at a Thai restaurant...ears perked right up. I guess we're both ice cream enthusiasts...and it shows.  :-[ Steve

Steve,

The ARGO will fly, absolutely.  I will have to remove the engine to brake it in. With the projects I currently have going, my guess would be around the first of the year. Just around the corner actually.

The "orange sherbet," I might use that on the ARGO 2. It's a great color.

I'll get all of them in the air eventually.

"Good" Will Hinton,

You always have kind words. I'm thinking a shade of teal for the ARGO 2 with about five other colors as accents.

I do like the orange sherbet, that's kinda like coral. It could work.

Affirmative on the "Coral" color...would be excellent on a stunter.  y1 Steve

That'd take time. I've also posted it in public facebook forum group, Ringmaster Fly-A-Thon:

That doesn't require membership or log-in to view, unless you wish to comment.

With your building skills now, I think you'd be able to do quite well. I've considered taking some of those scale free flight plans, modifying airfoils and tail surface proportions to CL standards, strengthening the frame and making a control line aircraft from them. I think a translucent finish mimicking colored tissue with a modern tissue like film instead of all planked wood would add a new twist to the CL experience.

You're welcome, Mark. ;D About only wrong with it is tank mounted in line with the venturi. I may have to drop the tank 1/2". These side ported engines run best with fuel level below the venturi for better consistent draw. Clovis is generally windy, which makes 1/2-A flying with lower powered engines a virtual impossibility most of the year. (We have hardly any trees except in town, i.e. no forests to dampen ground wind.)

Turn off the geo-tagging on your on your pictures and keep the shots close in, no USG facilities or equipment, you should be fine.

Charles, beautiful work! I won't spend that much effort into a finish, though, until I quit rekitting planes so quickly.  H^^

You're too kind. BTW. I don't have a great deal of time in the finish. It just looks like it.

Been doing this a long time so I know how to cut corners. I us a #11 Xacto blade. Yes I'm kidding.  LL~ LL~ LL~

There's some vinyl on this model and this saves a good deal of time.

This isn't done often; A stunter completely done in transparent film.  This is an original design powered by Saito 62.  Built from little balsa sticks for maximum "see-thru" effect.
