The nicest (that's an understatement) Spitfire plans I have seen come from (drum role please)... Pat Johnson.  I think they are the prototype of the Brodak Profile Warbird Spitfire that has not been produced yet.  This design is full bodied, very close to scale w/dihedral and uses standard construction techniques, not a lot of molded parts like some of the other scale warbird stunters.  Plans show a Brodak .40 but the plane is fairly large (54" or so) so other engines would be suitable. Pat's contact info is listed elsewhere in the forum.  I think it would make a great winter project.  y1

Yep Pat has at least two versions of the spitfire plans. I dont have my  plans list here with me. He also has one sized for a Magnum 53 class, around 630 inchs of wing. Pats plans and construction methods are very clean and easy to follow. with decent wood will build light as well. They also manage to capture the real essence of the plane without a ton of complicated work.Oh and as an added bonus, he can cut ribs and short kits now as he has a lazer cutter. contact him direct I think hes in the directory, if not his email is,,
patsplans   at   yahoo dot com
replace at with @ and dot with . remove the spaces and poof its an email address.. I dont like posting email addys complete as the spammers seem to find them
Pats a great guy email him,, he will hook you up

Wait til you see my Sheeks "Spitfire".  I think they came from Tom Dixon.  Don't know if Flying Models still has them or not.  DOC Holliday

PS:First flights will probably be in Tuscon.  Just put second coat of Red Dot 1-2-3 primer in fuel tank/engine area.  Can says it takes 7 days to cure completely. jeh

The *big* one is available from Windy, AFAIK.  He has the .60 size Spitfire and Seafire.  Both based somewhat on Patternmaster aerodynamics.

The plans for Windy's Spit were done by Pat; they are on Pat's list, as is the Seafire.

Then that makes 4 spitfires on Pats list. He has a new one, the 630 incher that he is building now, two .40 size and Windys

I can't say for the "SeaFire" but the original plans for the "Spitfire" were drawn by "Bob Martens" The sign off date on them is 12/95. I have them in front of me now. Terry, they are yours for the asking.

  Hi Jim;

Just checked all 4 sheets they all have "Bob Martens" as the drawer. I am now going to hang on to these, sorry Terry. Jim, mine are "Blue line drawings' not CAD. They came from "Windy" when the "Spitfire" was first published.

Thanks for the offer but I understand wanting to keep them, Could you please take a picture of the fuse and wing on the plans so I can get an idea of what their like? It looks like they are 3 or 4 pages, do you remember what the cost was on those plans?
Doc, What was the  Cost on Jack's plans?
Thanks for the help!

I have 7 different spitfire plans -  I can e-mail copies to you if you would like.

FWIW - Windys' "spitfire" is TERRIBLE - no real resemblance at all......

The sheeks plan  is much the same - very elongated fuse and not very spitfire like really......anyway - that is only my opinion...

The Brodak kit is coming out this year apparently - Pat Johnson has the plans - and this one actually LOOKS like a spitfire.........

This spitfire search is a new thing for me so is the Brodak kit going to be a profile or built up? What engine size are they going to use?
But if you don't mind e-mail a little info on your plans also. At this time, I think I am interest in a 40 size plane.
Thanks for your help!

I may be going out on a limb here but I believe the kit Brodak will release will be a profile Spitfire.  This is a full fuselage, very scale appearing Spitfire.  It features a thick airfoil, good numbers and straightforward construction, much like Pat's P-51 that was published in June 2007 Model Aviation.

I think it is a MK17 or so.  I remember it having rectangular wingtips, making a line slider easier to install but still featured the turtle-deck canopy as opposed to the much later bubble canopy version.  If you are a Spitfire fan, you will want to have this plan in your collection, whether you plan to build it or not.  Engine depicted is a Brodak 40 and Brodak hardware. This really does sound like the one you are looking for!

Yea, I've seen pics of Pat's Spit. Very cool, though I think he should have gone with a Malcolm Hood layout, but that's just me. It's very scale like version of a later model Spitfire.

If it is scale like appearance that you are after, the closest CLPA Spitfire is the one by Mark Freeman.  They were published with a construction article in American Aircraft Modeler August 1973 powered by a ST 46 with plans inked by Chuck Jackson.  It is a beautiful rendition of a later Mark.

John has three warbirds on the drawing board.  The Corsair, Bearcat, and Spitfire.  All were designed and drawn by Pat Johnson and all three look great.  The Corsair will be profile, the Spitfire will be full bodied and the Bearcat will most likely be full bodied.  A prototype of the profile Corsair was built by Joe Messinger who is a member of John's club.  I have the prototype and have flown it with both a 40 and 46 on it.  The B40 is plenty.  There is a picture of it in the last CLW.  John has someone building the spitfire prototype but neither of the other two 'official' prototypes kits have been cut.  As most of you know, John almost always builds each model he puts out before releasing it.  John asked me to make some changes to the corsair wing to make it easier to build so it is moving along.  The Spitfire should be out this year.  It is going to be a great looking plane.  The canopies are in the works.  Not sure about the other two.  John has all the plans but I don't know if he is selling them until he has built one and has all of his modifications made.

Hi guys, My email is down for few hours, it may be Sunday but hold on, I will get back to ya.
Don, the plans above look good and detailed. I can't enlarge them to see what size wing and motor they are. It looked like those were from a magazine from the picture. If so, what were they in, I may have them.
thanks !

Terry - when I get back to work I will send you the plans I have - I have the Spitfire III as pictured in above post.....it is designed for a 60

The Brodak one is full fuse - designed around the Brodak 40  it is Mk XVI so is clipped wing as per the above, but does not have the bubble canopy - like REAL spits!!!!

Will send plans sometime next week....just busy looking after the wife and the little man that turned up.......

I have the magazine...but sadly some of the pages in the center of the issue are missing.
The magazine is quite detailed and extensive...so some of the real meaty building stuff is missing?
If I remember the magazine arrived in the mail with some of the pages actually stapled in the wrong sequence with page 73- skipps to page 65??? DA??? and then printed on the back side of page 75-----is printed 106??? (one the same page???) Someone at the printing co. must have had a BAD DAY? LL~
Check out Marks last page...where he gives credit to our friend and mentor...Al Rabe.

I'll send u a "ZZZZZZZZZROK'D COPIES of the article for ref.

If you go to post #17 and open the plans, there are 3 items that have been the subject of other
threads.  having the fuel pick up go to the inside of the circle, split flap horns on a swept forward trailing edge, and a removable  wing.
