Silkspan from SIG
« on: April 25, 2017, 07:31:13 AM »
Yesterday I was poking around on the SIG website/ catalog.
Went to the section on covering, and was surprised to find  they are listing silkspan once again!
All three grades, light, medium and heavy.

If they actually have it, and it's the same as the old stuff, that would be some great news.

I just bought 12 sheets.  Looks like Dr. paper but I'm no expert.

I have a supply of the medium weight doctor paper if anyone wants to try it. I think it's the same as the old medium weight stuff, gm grade. A buck a sheet folded plus postage.  Shipping whole rolls has proven expensive and some people don't want that much. Contact me with a PM or an email

I got a whole monster roll of the TIDI paper, Doctor paper, or whatever it is from Fred. The stuff is so cheap I had to check it out. I haven't experimented with it yet but it feels kinda weird. To me it looks and feels like a cross somewhere between silkspan and toilet paper. I'd still much rather get ahold of some of the old "real deal" Sig Medium.  :-\

The stuff is working great for me.  I do one panel at a time doing the TIDI first and mylar over it.   Found out that when doing the TIDI on opposite panel run a thin line of white glue around the LE & TE plus the tips , the second layer will go down better.  Always do bottom panel first then top.   Also over lap the mylar a 1/2 inch onto the previous mylar.   T he combination of the two make for strength.  The TITI has no strength by it self and don't try to put it on wet unless you want a mess.  There is more detail on this forum some where  Don't try trimming with knife or razor either on the TITI.   Use sand paper like you were using regular silk span.
