Second Annual Triple Tree Stunt Championships: Joe Nall Week
« on: April 13, 2016, 05:06:29 PM »
Sorry for this late posting. Based on requests from last year's pilots, we added a second day. On Friday, May 13, we will fly Classic and Profile and fly PA on Saturday, May 14.

Triple Tree has actually lowered their entry fee for those coming late in the week and that is us! Like last year, there are no fees for the contest. And like last year, each pilot receives a free and special Tee Shirt and a hot free lunch on Saturday, compliments of Will Davis and family. As everyone loved the awards last year, they will be the same for this year except three times as many!

Please join us for the contest and come early if you want to practice, see the Disneyworld of model aviation, or just hang out. Triple Tree is an awesome venue.
To join us, two things you need to do:

1.Go to: www.tripletreeaerodrome.com and find the Joe Nall Week. Sign up as a control line pilot and follow their directions.
2. Call or email me (Mark Weiss) to let me know which events you will be entering and your shirt size. That's it!

There was a post in Model Aviation and a two page article in Stunt News but I realize that not all are PAMPA members.

Please plan on attending and I promise you a great time.

Sincerely
Mark Weiss, CD    email: ama82824@yahoo.com   phone: 302-547-4917

Hi Jeff,
Great hearing from you and seeing you guys in Toledo. The $500 fee is for a limited number of prime camping spots. You do not need those spaces. Our guys camp at the circles. If you go to the Triple Tree website and click on Joe Nall Week, the fees are there including basic camping. The entry fee depends upon what day you arrive. Most are coming on Thursday. That rate is lower than it was last year. Because there is an entrance fee to the property, there are no fees connected to our stunt contest. Free shirt, terrific awards, and a great lunch....all free.

Let me know if you still have any questions. I am very excited about both of you coming. I promise a great time.

Mark

Jeff,

Looking forward to the event , i will be there all week, camping about 40 feet from the center circle, if you are camping , you will love the clean , modern  bathhouses, . Be prepared to fly daylight to dark . There is power at the main shelter and at the big tent for the electric guys .

Two big  week long events ( Brodak  and joe Nall  ) and a local content ( hunters ville. )in a little over a month means busy times around here ..

I had a great time last year, and will be there Saturday to fly Stunt. Wish I could come fly profile Friday, but not in the cards.

Guys,

I checked the Triple Tree website again for exact details. The pilot fee if you arrive on Thursday is $48; arriving Friday, the fee is $32, and arriving Saturday, the fee is $16. Camping is $40 for Thursday arrivals and $20 for Friday arrivals. As has been mentioned above, the shower facilities are world class, truly amazing with granite counter tops.

As I am ordering the awards and shirts, please let me know ASAP what size shirt you wear and what events you will enter: Friday is Profile and Classic and Saturday is PA. Again, no contest fees and free T shirt and terrific free lunch. See you soon...

Over  the past 4 years, the green hat gang has helped many new flyers and retreads get in their trainer flights . This year if we continue on the same pace , we are expecting to hit 2000 flights since Mark Weiss and Pat Hartness  vision  of adding control line to one of the largest model airplane get togethers in the world .

I made a  red cedar trophy pictured below , it  we will presented to the unsuspecting 2000 th trainer pilot. We are looking forward to this milestone.

Not a lot to report on from Sunday except we had a full day of fun, sun and  great South Carolina hospitality. Pat Hartness was seen on a circle fllinf a OTS  model a couple time, yes the head honcho for the triple tree , joe Nall experience can really fly control line , does a pretty good job at it too.

Training flights were hit and miss all day, about the time you thought you could sit  down and rest , a golf cart full of kids show up wanting to fly. Some retreads show up with their old and new models, sparked by the control line interest of last years,

We had some serious practice  happening on circle 1 , but more less serious hanger flying, showing of old models and new . Time to get out the ringrats for night flying tomorrow night , the rc guys do it, so we will try it Monday night,

Mark Weiss has built 5 new ringrats, all are sill flying, only crashes were with the local experts flying them,  , no damage , just having too much fun  , verticle eights are tough with 1/2 a size trainer,

They didn't put up scoreboards to get pictures of, so Maybe Will will send us the official results. Here's what I remember.
Saturday PAMPA Stunt
Expert 1st Place was Derek
Advanced 1st was Mike Waldron
Intermed. 1st place was Me
Beginner 1st was Mike(aka Carl) Lindler

On Friday, Dave Wenzel won Beginner Profile out of about 8 people. And he won something else too, I forget. But he was so happy that Wayne had twisted his arm to try, that Dave Bear Hugged him after it was all over Lol.

Sorry, that's all I remember, but it was a beautiful day and lots of fun.

My hat is off to Will Davis and Mark Weiss and their whole crew of helpers..  They worked real hard to put on a great event and they spent the whole week before are contest there teaching others among the RC groups how to fly control line.. Trying to promote more to our side.. The total event was like a model airplane Disney land..  I never spent a moment not enjoying watching some type of plane flying around the place.. There are 3 control line grass circles there and I have been to a lot of different places to fly the last couple years and I will say..  That grass was the best!  Perfectly level and well watered putting green grass. There was free lunch on Saturday for all!  Thanks to the Will Davis family. Free T-Shirt's to all and awesome award trophy's to the winners..  The little high price to enter the aerodome was well made up for..  To top it off..  They have a grass runway there and a real P-51 took off Saturday morning which was too cool..  So Come Next Year!        Thanks Guys!!

Thank you Mike for your kind words. Howard asked me to get him the contest results so he can include them in Stunt News. Derek volunteered to write the article for Stunt News. Thank you, friend. I wanted to share with all of you the highlights from my point of view as CD and one trying to get new folks into our hobby.
 1. When an attendee registers for the Joe Nall week, they have to declare their home base (Main line RC, Electric line, 3D line, etc.) Last year we had 36 sign up for control line. This year the total was 45. Growth is growth.
2. The largest contest entry category was Beginner Profile: 10!! That is future growth.
3. We celebrated our 2,000th student and Will's great plaque was awarded by me and Pat Hartness in front of several thousand at the Friday Awards Ceremony.
4. We promoted a former new student to our first home-made instructor, high school senior Logan McAllister
5. Our first female student and solo pilot is pregnant with "our" first control line baby.
6. Seven year old Devon was adopted by the Green Hat Gang and flew over 40 solo flights! How cool is that.
7. Finally and remarkably, the annual Joe Nall Award was presented on the main RC flight line on Friday right after our 2,000th student award was made. The winner of this prestigious award was ...... me! Two of three awards were for CL at a previous all RC show, the largest in the world. I share the award with all the members of the Green Hat Gang and all the experienced pilots who come every year to support our mission.
 Thanks, Mark
