Really old role model - new project
« on: February 09, 2017, 09:50:05 AM »
To me, the italian racing floatplanes series from around the year 1925 belong to the most attractive airplanes ever built. This is why I thought it would be a good idea to build once more a stunter (I’ve done an MC-72 a couple of years ago) paying tribute to those who flew these red airplanes from the harbour of Desenzano at Lake Garda, Italy.
Here is what I intend to do: combining a modern wing and tail, Igor’s Max Bee, with my own version of the Fiat C 29 fuselage from 1929. Electric and pusher, of course. And with substantial support by math. expert Wolfgang Nieuwkamp.

The 1957 version of the Tucker Special did a good job of copying that. Looks like a fun project.
Here is my 46 size version of the 1957 Tucker Special. The kit 35 size version is in the background with smaller sub rudder.
Big sub rudder on 1957 version. ~^

Looks Good, but you should really at least put MOUNTS in for FLOATS . n1

If you think about it , you end up with a sesqi plane , that flys like is ' on rails ' , unless its gusty .
The Floats give extra lift , almost no drag , and carry their own weight .

Once on of the Big Guns have tried them , everyone will want them. And wheels will become a thing of the past .  S?P

The New Floats shown on the MC72 are larger X section , same profile , so more rounded . Actually good in a bit of breeze ,
where the earlier narrower ones got a ' weave ' in mildly gusty conditions . Will tryn getiton UTube , before many moons .

If youve let a few ply plates into the fuse for dural legs , theyred be no loss . Extra weight'd be maybe 8 Oz / pair .
But Lift Comensurate & drag neglable. No adverse in tight turns , unless it improves them . sorta a anchor ( slight )
' securing ' the  turn .
Zero Axis of floats alighed 0 - 0 / thrustline . Negligable ' toe in ' .
Biggest Pain is actually building them . A plug ( mould ) and spruce/ carbon Keel . Mounts must be secure & adequately substantial,
flying on grass . A T/R wheel or two let in , or wire keel strake , for tarmac .

The Latest Innovation in STUNT , Extra extremely low A/R Wings , instead of wheels . !  VD~ H^^

The 1957 version of the Tucker Special did a good job of copying that.

Here is my 2007 version of the Mc-72:  OS .71 4-cycle

If you think Schneider Trophy racers were small in general, the FIAT C.29 would blow your mind. It's tiny behind a big V-12.
