Randy Powell
« on: May 08, 2017, 09:44:53 PM »
Hey guys, just a note, my good friend Randy Powell will be delayed in finishing his new classic plane, in fact the selfish guy was so worried about me beating him in Roseburg that he took extreme measures to insure I couldnt,, he had an accident around his house this weekend and is currently in traction at the hospital, he made a mess of his hip.
I dont have a mailing address, but he is in Harborview hospital, no doubt getting the nurses all wound up ( ok so Randy isnt that way, but we can pretend he is,)
His wife told me he was going to have his laptop soon so he may get bored enough to come on and chat, make sure if he does you know how desperate he was to avoid getting beat by me ok?
details, at this point surgery to repair his hip is an option but they are trying to see if it might heal without surgery, I will update as I know more..
be well my friend be well
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

So sorry to hear about your accident Randy!

I hope you are able to manage through it and start to feel better soon.

I was hoping to catch up with you at the Regionals but it appears now that might have to wait.

All the best.

Good grief Randy, really?  You hurt yourself to avoid getting beat by Mark at the Regionals!   I remember last year when Mark pretended he was sick and didn't come to the Spring Tune-Up in Portland.

Seriously, sorry you hurt yourself.  Really sucks.  Hope they fix you up and you're feeling better soon!

If you see or talk to Randy, tell him the old DOC Holliday will be praying for him to quit following my examples.  Lucky for me with all the falls I've taken has not produced any broken bones.   The hip had some kind of infection which was cured with pills.   Get well Randy and follow doctors orders,  not mine. No problem, Randy.  Get somebody to turn the wheel chair around and you can beat Scarborough easy.

Take care my friend.  You weren't trying to relive your youthful high jumping days were you???

Oh Randy, weren't we just having a conversation about all the stuff we have gotten away with in previous years? Hmm, maybe we shouldn't have done that! Don't worry about Mark, he'll take care of himself  ;D.

Randy, don't tell me you were reliving your youth by high jumping in the back yard.  You do realize that they use foam filled pits instead of just a pile of sawdust.  Did you clear 6' 8"?😀😀😀😀

Holy Cow Randy...there are better ways to get a vacation from work than that!

Ouch my friend!  Hips are a bummer!  I used to land on my right hip nearly every time I fell off of a motorcycle when racing.  It still hurts, and that was a lot of years ago!

Get well and leave the nurses alone...some of them have great right crosses...broken jaws hurt even more than the hip!  LL~

Seriously...sorry you're laid up,  Do what you're told and get better!

Hi guys. Thanks for all the semi-nice words. :D

Well the verdict was, no surgery. Fractured pelvis and some seriously torn muscles. But the fracture is stable so the doc basically said, just let it heal. 6 weeks or so with no weigh on my right foot (I expect to learn to run a walker really well), 8-12 weeks healing time. No regionals for me.

Sorry, I'm on serious pain pills and can't really write to much here.

So, no contracts or major life decisions, either, huh?

Again, all the best -- I'd be happy to spin you round & round at the Regionals.  My hips are good, and your shoulder's good -- that makes one good pilot, right?

Well Randy, don't feel lonesome.  Got the brace and assorted things on my arm, hand and fingers.   Told not to take it off even though Velcro is holding it on.  Have to wear this for 6 weeks besides doing finger exercises 6 times a day at 15 reps each time.  For got how stiff muscles get when not used.  The good looking lady says it is required to keep tendons sliding through the scar tissues as it heals.   Any way take of your self and maybe we can get together at VSC again.  Ifvyou are like me, I plan on living another 20 years just to get even with a couple of grand kids. Get well Randy, sorry to hear about your accident. By the time I get a plane finished to fly again, and with all out aches and pains, we should definitely start a new event called "Old Fart Stunt", we could use a cain to help us to the handle and put a nail in the end so we could stab the handle a lift it up, of course we'd have to be careful to not stab our foot  #^ #^ #^ #^ #^ #^.

Man, sounds like a major drag Randy. Hopefully you'll at least be able to turn some of that 8-12 weeks healing time into some quality "Zen" sanding and prep time on the current bird. Heck, maybe the prescription will provide you with some new paint scheme ideas too!  n~

So, a week post injury. I am healing and am reducing pain meds. Can't walk without a walker, but am more mobile. I hope to be back flying in July sometime. Guess we'll have to see.

Fun stuff.
