Plane for McCoy .098?
« on: May 18, 2012, 09:30:54 PM »
Any suggestions for a plane that would work with an old (1952) McCoy .098?

Thanks,

Allen

They fly well. Jr Streak would probably work. Similar in size to 1/2 planes.

Hi Allen,
I like to build planes for my vintage engines if the plans show the engine I want to use.
I got plans off the internet for Dmeco's All American stunt trainer. This model has a WS of 26" and shows a McCoy "9" mounted along with an OK Cub .099. I want to build it for my OK engine.
The plans say "Performs the full stunt pattern with ease" and looks easy to build.

I recently made an All American for that very engine.

Well Howard; We just never know what is going to show up on your posts, and now you show us your All American that is cuter than a bugs ear. That is so cool. How does it fly?

I built an All American like Howard's, but more authentic looking, for my McCoy 098.  I never got it into the air because the engine would not suck fuel enough to get it off the ground.  Put in a Torp 09 and all was well.   Story is that the Veco Papoose was designed for the McCoy 098.  When the engine turned out to be a loser, there was all this wood accumulated to make Papoose kits.  Joe Wagner designed either the Dakota or Souix free flights, or both, to use up this wood.   S?P

I had one on an original PDQ Baby Clown. It was so anemic, it would barely fly.

Thanks for the suggestions! Is the "All American" the Walter Umland kit?

It hasn't flown.  I built it for a friend who had one as a kid.
